Every year in North Kerala, Theyya season begins with the departure of Visha kandan Theyya on the 10th day of Malayalam month Thulam, the date in which Kandan’s dead body was found. On the ninth day of Thulam month, it is customary for those who from Karumarath family to come to Chattothu temple and perform pooja and pure rituals. Similarly there is a ritual of Visha Kandan theyyam going to Karumarath family and telling the story of how he was tricked and killed from there. Visha Kandan Theyam is performed by people belonging to Peruvannan caste. Chicken eggs and coconut oil are the main offerings at Kolacheri Chathambilli Kavu, the abode of Vishakandan God 🙏🏼

Theyyam, a ritual art form where divinity comes to life through color, music, and dance!

Yes, the Theyyam season is currently underway in North Kerala. The season has officially begun in late October (on the 10th day of the Malayalam month of Thulam) and continues until late May, before the monsoon season begins.

November is considered part of the peak season, offering numerous opportunities to witness the performances at various temples and sacred groves (kavus) throughout the North Malabar region, including the districts of Kannur, Kasaragod, Wayanad, and parts of Kozhikode.

Theyyam performances are a powerful and deeply spiritual ritual art form where performers embody local deities and ancestral spirits. They are a significant part of the local culture and religious practices.

Specific performances are scheduled throughout November 2025 at various locations, and calendars are often available through the Kerala Tourism website or local DTPC (District Tourism Promotion Council) offices to find exact dates and locations.
