More than a trip, a connection to Noto. 🍣

Our September tour brought digital nomads together for the Okuma Kabuto Festival, swimming with dolphins, freshly made sushi by a sushi master at our guesthouse, and shared meals with local residents.
Thank you to everyone who made it special. Here’s a glimpse!

🎏 I got to be a part of a Matsuri!
*Info for free stay in Japan for up to a month below ;)

Okuma Kabuto festival is a thank-you to the land for the harvest. For generations, nineteen villages in Nanao city has been getting together on the 20th of September each year, with portable shrines and 20-meter flags marked with their own crest.

the finale, it’s called “Shimada-kuzushi.” Massive flags are tilted almost to the ground in a skillful move.

I also went to the famous Gion Matsuri in Kyoto, but since I was alone it was difficult for me to figure out what was going on.
Having the luxury of getting filled in on the details and the legacy definitely gave me a deeper insight and a closer connection with the community.

I felt so lucky to be here, and so grateful to the people who let me be part of it 🙏

And shout out to the everyone who carried the heavy flags and shrine in the blazing sun from 5am to 4pm 😭✨

🔖Save this for Sept 20 next year!

👺Stay in Japan, 2~4weeks, for FREE!

📸 Thanks @alebisi94 for the amazing underwater photos!!

One of the most memorable things to do around Noto? Swim with wild Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins near Notojima Island. 🐬
The main season runs from April to October. Every encounter is different—the dolphins are wild, and seeing them in their natural habitat makes the experience special. ❤️ by @nomadresort_noto

Am I dreaming?✨ A rural town in Japan invited me to go live there for up to 1 month!

Of course I said yes, and of course I said I will stay for the full month.

But I have no idea what to expect- has anyone been to Ishikawa?

Let me know in the comments if you have any suggestions!

Thank you @nomadresort_noto for this opportunity 🙌

좋은 기회 연결해준 @nomadresort_noto 감사합니다🙏

A day in Noto with NomadResort 🌿

We explored Wajima, witnessing both the scars left by the earthquake and the incredible strength of the people rebuilding their hometown.

We met Wajima lacquer artisans, watched the rice harvest continue at the beautiful Shiroyone Senmaida, and joined the Okuma Kabuto Festival, carrying a mikoshi and celebrating alongside the local community.

We ended the day with a special sushi buffet prepared by a local sushi chef.

Culture, resilience, nature, food, and warm connections—all the beauty of Noto packed into one unforgettable day. by @nomadresort_noto

NOTO
~ Real Japan ~

Hidden on the coast of Ishikawa lies Noto, where traditions are alive and nature surrounds you. 🌿

We joined the local festival, explored breathtaking scenery, and connected with amazing people while envisioning a new nomad community here. 🌏✨

If you want to experience the real Japan, away from the cities and deep in culture, this is where it begins.

(Watch part 1 if this doesn’t make sense)

In the midst of rebuilding, I saw something powerful.
After the January 2024 earthquake, Noto — a small town in Ishikawa — faced major challenges.
With an aging population and limited manpower, recovery has been slow.

But tradition didn’t stop.
Festivals like Abare Matsuri continued — not just as celebration, but as a symbol of resilience.
Local councils, volunteers, and even national agencies stepped in to support.

What I witnessed wasn’t just recovery.
It was a coordinated effort — across generations — to protect culture and restore community.
Recovery here is slow — not because they don’t care,
but because rebuilding takes people.
And many of those people have left especially the young ones, the ones with the strength & endurance.

Still, the ones who stayed — they keep showing up.
Not just for themselves, but for each other.

A different kind of winning — not loud or flashy, but rooted, steady, and unshakable.
