Lac Rose | Pink Lake | Lake Retba

Situated just 35km outside of Dakar, this lake is a must visit when in Senegal 🇸🇳

It holds the record as the world’s largest pink body of water. It is salt rich ( 1L of water can contain up to 400g of salt in the dry season) and gets its colour from an algae in the water.

Another interesting fact is that the lake was the end point of the Paris-Dakar rally previously. 🏎️

Disclaimer: the lake currently looks more orange to the eye than pink after flooding in 2022 caused it to lose its colour. It is however slowly regaining it. It looked beautifully pink through my polarised glasses 🤓😅 and yes, I added a filter to parts of the video.
