Scenes from the 2025 Tour De Del rally.

From the first Del Taco through Death Valley and into the eastern Sierras, and we did all 400ish miles of the first day with our phones sealed in an envelope, using the route book and a map to navigate.
The fun part was when we realized that we didn’t have a way to tell time, and we had woken up at 3:30am to make it to the start, so we were pretty disoriented all day. Until we rolled into the remote town that marked the end of day one, stopped at the overpriced gas station, and counted the church bells that began to ring out. It was 7:00pm.

Overcrest by the numbers. What it actually costs to drive a vintage car from California to Utah and drive in circles down dirt roads for fun.

Total miles: 2,726
Fuel cost: $635.78
Gallons put in: 115.24
Lodging: $630
Ticket fees: $960.50
Broken and lost parts: one axle, one exhaust hanger, one header flange bolt, a majorly dented and scratched exhaust, a transmission that started to disassemble itself, a leaky radiator “fixed” with JB weld and a differential that will need to be replaced in the near future.

Grand total: $2,226.28
Hours spent in the car: 52

All of this split between two people equals an absolute bargain for THE BEST experience you can have with your car and friends.
And I’ve already began fixing and improving the car for the next one.

@the.real_cooper beat me to all the Overcrest photos, so now I have to catch up. I have a heck of a time telling the days apart, they all run together, but I'll call this day 0 part 1 of @overcrestproductions, where Cooper and I saw part of the Grand Canyon and rolled into a drizzly Monument Valley. At least, I think that was the same day.

Day two of the @overcrestproductions rally in Utah was kinda bitter sweet.
First off, it was an incredible day of extremely diverse terrain and scenery, had one of my favourite sections of the entire rally because of how jaw droppingly beautiful it was, and was another amazing day of camaraderie and exploration.
But it was the last day of this amazing event. Tomorrow we had to drive home. But we made the most of it.

The second turn of the morning had us climbing up a hill on a dirt road. Exactly how I want to wake up. And we got our first taste of snow in the form of small patches and in the distance in the trees. Foreshadowing maybe.
The view was incredible, the temperature was perfect, and the road was amazing.

Again, the scenery on day two was even more diverse than day one. Every hour it seemed we were in a completely different biome and could’ve been in a completely different state, if judged just by the surroundings.
We drove up to about 9,600 feet of elevation. A couple times.
I was weighing the pros and cons of moving to the middle of nowhere Utah. And we had our ONLY issue of the rally.

We were on the last dirt road of the rally. It was setting up to be an amazing dirt road up and over this mountain, looking down on a valley with snow filling the space between the trees. Once again, I was just completely amazed. And when we started to come up on small patches of snow in the road we were having a great time bombing through them.
They slowly started to get larger until we got stuck on one. High centered.
Apparently we were the first ones to make it up to that road and discover the conditions, which I felt was a good thing, that means there’s bound to be friends coming up behind us soon. So we got to digging.
Unfortunately I was preoccupied and didn’t take any pictures of us stuck in the snow. It’s unfortunate because in hindsight it’s pretty funny, and we had a good time. The suspension was sagging way down, the engine bay was FILLED with snow all around the engine and transmission, and the snow had popped out one of the rows in the radiator, so we had a little bit of an issue. But we can fix anything, so again, not worried.

Since I'm no longer chronological, this is the perfect opportunity to share some of my favorite photos from @riversidecruisenights April 2023. I ended up at this event somewhat by chance, but it was very laid back and everything that I love about car gatherings. Hopefully I'll end up back down in SoCal this year.
