Your job is not your identity. I learned that the hard way throughout 2016.

@luckymagazine folded. I was laid off from my dream job at Condé Nast.

After seven years, I didn’t just lose a role — I lost a version of myself. So much of who I was, got wrapped up in what I did.

Being pushed out of my comfort zone led me to new adventures, new challenges (ANOTHER layoff) and the opportunity to anchor my soul to what matters most.

2016 brought Snapchat filters and unexpected opportunities to work with incredible people on amazing projects but my biggest takeaway?

My identity comes from my creator, not my employer.

When my worth stopped being tied to a role, confidence followed—and comparison lost its grip.

Something’s going on with Millennials.

We’re looking up from the life we girl bossed so hard to build and admitting it’s not where we want to be anymore.

That’s not failure. That’s growth.

We’re a resilient generation that’s adapted, persevered, and mastered the art of the pivot through every economic curveball and cultural shift. We have grit creativity and now decades of life experience.

It’s not a midlife crisis.

It’s the beginning of an entrepreneurial renaissance.

The @fashionology.nyc Summit in partnership with @allthingsfashiontech was a reminder of how long I’ve been fascinated by the relationship between fashion and technology.

It brought me back to my time as a fashion and beauty reporter @mashable creating video reviews of the latest wearable tech, and later as the Editorial Director @mishanonoo where we produced the first NYFW show exclusively for @snapchat
