Where to begin...

The Odyssey is art. A truly staggering film of immense proportion, with direction so realistic that you are immersed without escape the moment Odysseus begins his voyage.

All the pre-release tales of badly cast stars and cultural appropriation vanish into the breathtaking sound and scale that accompany this cinematic masterpiece.

Nolan makes a film almost without special effects because those are left to the story of the odyssey ; a tale that's hundreds of years old.

He tells the story the old way. With rain and sweat and lightning and thunder. Big, giant monsters and violent men who lived short lives and ventured into the unknown so other men would sing songs of them.

It's not a new story, or even a new telling.

It's an epic telling.

If there was a challenge in the casting, then perhaps the American accents stole from the immensity of this film, and Telemachus could have gone to an actor with a stronger chin.

That said...

👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

Take a bow, Mr Nolan.
