Just because you gave up does not mean it's okay to take everyone down with you, even if they say it's fine (because most people do not know what covid is and does, and therefore it is not informed consent).

You know better? Do better.

You might think you're cooking with all your pseudoarguments, you're not. You're the type of person who would have breezed past the HIV crisis and then wakes up shocked when it affects you.

Stop acting/discussing only when the issue has a proximity to you (be it family or friends) or when it's popular (eat the rich, palestine, BLM). If you actually have a decent moral compass, you will do what's right even if it's not popular.

And least of all, you do not deserve being coddled and validated as you walk around maskless, possibly contagious at any given moment, nor do you deserve a medal for wearing a surgical mask once or twice a month.

"Well, I wear it when I see the doctor!"

Okay?

And when your bunch keep spreading it in the community, you do realize that inevitably gets to the clinical settings, right? You do know high-risk people and caregivers need to navigate community spaces? Or is this too hard for you to conceptualize because nobody understands the word contagious anymore?

Whatever you do, do not beware of public health institutions rooted in a past of forced sterilization, unethical experiments and stonewalling and ignoring HIV/AIDS sufferers and deaths that tell you there is nothing to see. They're favoring people who read nothing and experts who pretend to know nothing.

We all know government always protects us in time and certainly never needs any pressure or for us to bleed until it reacts.

hard facts for those who aren't faint of heart

people who know me in real life know that I'm a very stringent mask wearer. I wear one wherever I believe disabled people should exist safely/should have access to. My mother's not getting younger. My pets cannot be vaccinated. I value how my body enables me to move, do sports and work. I've seen world class athletes lose their career after a covid infection, so this conversation is truly more about vulnerable vs most vulnerable. I love how masks allow me to work while my whole team gets sick repeadetly, and I never catch anything.

But if more people wear a mask some of the time, the less anyone has to wear one at all times outside their home. Our most vulnerable 100% deserve to not shoulder the full burden of public health action.

Prioritize KN95s or N95s. Do your best. Insist on flights, public transit, health care settings, concerts, conferences, classrooms. Open windows. Talk about engineering solutions : air purifiers, ventilation, pathogen air samplers, affordable/free vaccines and tests. Never forget that staff are people too before deciding if a space is empty, and they're more likely to work while sick to make ends meet.

IMPORTANT

The RAT study did not cover all RATs on the market, but the issue is the same all around. Another RAT study from 2022 suggests testing a second time 1-2 days later because it improves sensitivity. Antigen test sensitivity peaks at 4 days after illness onset.

In my personal experience, it took me 2 tests and waiting about 3 days after symptoms onset to catch my COVID infection, and from there, I had positives all throughout the next two weeks until it became negative again. False negatives are way more common than false positives, and I was able to rule it out.

In my epidemiology 101 class, we were told that diagnostic tests who have less than 80% sensitivity were "doubtful", so do what you will with that.

Covid is the 3d leading cause of death in Canada and has killed more in 2022 than any previous year (150.statcan), is the 1st infectious cause of death and the 2nd cause of hospitalization (CIHI) in the country. Fuck Columbus. Fuck Thanksgiving.

And it was a maskless, symptomatic classmate and likely other asymptomatic spreaders who I had to stay with for hours because of teamwork who ensured that I might have lasting internal damage and scrapped my Halloween plans.

And if I happen to have lasting damage that I don't feel yet, the illness will take over at some point and scrap more of those plans.

Thank you for doing risking me like this, friends.

Most of all, thank you for putting me in a position where I'm the only one who will try not to kill my IC mom. The carelessness you decided to take on doesn't go away, it transfers to other people. I carry all of your burden, and the pressure to isolate and stop transmission is all mine.
