This summer I became certified as a dog trainer, and today I had my first official session with this ridiculously adorable client, Fonzie!

Fonzie is already doing great as a 3 month old puppy. He already knows sit, has been housebroken to use a litter box (but doesn't know to go while outside), and is such a loving sweet and age-appropriately behaved goof.

We worked on a plan to minimize the occurrence of unwanted puppy behaviors, like chewing on plants and things on tables, and to find higher-value toys that he would prefer instead.

We worked on holding the leash in a way to let his person set the pace and ensure Fonzie doesn't get into trouble with whatever he might find on the ground or with other dogs who might not be as friendly as he is, especially on busy streets in NYC.

We worked on a plan to get him going to the bathroom outside and to use that litter box only as a last resort.

We worked on building his independence and developing solo hobbies, and especially doing those most desirable activities in his crate, to address separation anxiety and so he can feel more confident when his person is doing her own thing. And we worked on rewarding him in the proper way to encourage more wanted behaviors.

It was really fun! I'm writing up a follow-up plan for Fonzie's guardian to implement ongoingly with him until his next stage of development. It is she who will be training Fonzie; I'm just training her how. It's exciting to help a pooch on his path to learning a lifetime of excellent doggie behavior. ❤️

This bathroom cabinet is where the 2 sweet but shy kitties I just spent the past 3 weeks with started out when I arrived. For the first few days, they spent most of their time in here -- Bo in the top drawer and Stephanie in the bottom!

Their people told me this is normal for them around new people. I was so grateful to earn their trust and soon get to know these sweet kitties! by @nora.petsits

This is so sad 🥺 but please meet Bella here. I was scheduled to petsit for this 15 year old sweet pittie starting this weekend. There were nothing but great reviews of her from previous sitters. I had the welcome guide and had discussed the details of caring for her with her guardian (her food schedule, medication, her arthritis and needing help up and down the steps).

Then I got a message this morning that Bella had a massive stroke last night and her person needed to euthanize her. 😭😭😭Of course she is heartbroken, and I still remember and know that pain well from losing Daiya.

I suppose I am grateful that this stroke happened while she was with her guardian, who could be with her at this critical time and make this heartbreaking decision, not while Bella was with me while her person was away. Still, I have been looking through all the photos of Miss Bella on the Rover app and wanted to honor her and the time I almost had with her.

From what I can gather, she lived her doggie life as fully as possible, loved people and other dogs, and was showered with love. 😭💔🫶 by @nora.petsits
