PSALMS 63:3

“Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you”

The other day I was thinking about existence, and the purpose of our creation. I started picturing what God might have been like in those moments of designing, and before He even began.

He sat in the dark with nothing but Himself and His imagination. How quiet it must have been. And to think of the first moment when He spoke. When His hands started to move. He went forward and created all things with focus and care. All things that surround us. Everything we see, touch, hear, smell, taste. Everything.

And then He went on to create man.

I stepped back, and I thought about the moment He created me. Think about that. God crafting your face, your figure, every detail. What it sounded like when He named you. And in that time of designing every part of you, He knew that your life was necessary, and He felt that way about every human that walks the earth.

I then wondered, what was God’s intention for life itself?

To glorify Him.

I’ve grown numb to those words, as I’ve heard them over and over, but for the very first time the significance of this concept rushed over me.

This life that we are living, that is all about us, isn’t really all about us. It’s bigger than us. Way bigger. Not as if we are unimportant, but rather the opposite; as a much needed working part to the body of Christ.

God has intentionally designed you and carefully planned your life to glorify all that He is. He saw that your soul held something the world hungered for, and that your heart carried a piece of Him—so that if someone may cross your path, in Him through you they are brought to surrender.

We are called to live in example of God’s wonder and beauty as we are made. It is the entire reason for our existence. We would be wasting our lives if we lived otherwise.
