Torticollis has traditionally been defined as a tight muscle in the neck. While there may be that tightness, the preference to turn the head and bend the neck to one side is usually just a symptom of restrictions throughout the body.

That’s why when I treat a baby with torticollis, plagiocephaly, and/or tethered oral ties, I always start with the pelvis (not seen in this reel), and address restrictions throughout the entire body without any stretching.

Everything in the body is connected and with gentle bodywork, we can release restrictions to allow babies to have access to their full motion. 🐣

It's been a long while since I've posted. I kept waiting to get a bunch of posts together. To find the admin support to help me organize my videos. To edit and prepare so I could feel ready.

What is bodywork and what does infant PT look like?

When a family calls with a newborn who is tight, only looks to one side, is having trouble with feeding, or the baby just seems uncomfortable, it can be hard to describe how I treat it.

I use a combination of techniques but they are generally described as “bodywork” and don’t look like a traditional stretching treatment because that is NOT what I do. The babies are comfortable and you can see a change from the beginning to the end of the session.

I was fortunate to spend time with my dear friend, to cry and share long hugs, to laugh a bit, to drink coffee and to yell and moan and cry some more.

She's going through so much and has an incredible community of people, and being so far away and hearing about all the many difficulties she's going through has made me feel helpless and protective.

There are way too many things making it even harder - people saying ignorant things, a serious lack of support from places one would expect to be the most understanding, and a real absence of services and systems to assist in managing all the logistics of dealing with something so traumatic.

In true @embracingwholeness fashion, the first thing she does is create a spreadsheet. But not just any spreadsheet - one full of resources that she wants to pass onto other families who have to go through this horrific tragedy.

Such a beautiful, generous, and thoughtful soul. I love you so much. Thank you for letting me support you and feel like I can have some impact on everything you and your family are working through.

It’s not every day that we say goodbye to a kiddo we’ve been seeing for over a year, 😭 but it makes me feel so appreciated and is a special reminder of why I love doing this kind of work.

This family made their feelings known in such a kind and clear way and I’m so grateful. I would also argue that perhaps Badass Miracle Worker should be an official job title! 😝
