I’ll be honest: @noragotsweettooth’s muesli is doing the lion’s share of work in this stunning veggie dish: crunchy oats, chewy fruit, nuts, and spice are combined to make it into a savory dukkah (You’ll see me snacking on it as I make this dish, it’s addictive stuff). The carrots meet it halfway, glazed in hot honey and lemon; I promise there won’t be a crumb left if you serve this as a weeknight veggie side.

Recipe:

**Ingredients**

* 4 large carrots, peeled and halved lengthwise
* 2 tbsp olive oil
* Salt, to taste
* 2 tsp whole cumin seeds
* 2 tsp whole coriander seeds

**Hot Honey Glaze**

* 2 tbsp honey
* 1 tbsp lemon juice
* ½ tsp chili flakes

**Muesli Dukkah**

* ¼ cup peanuts
* ¼ cup almonds
* ¼–⅓ cup sesame seeds (be generous)
* 1 tbsp each coriander and cumin seeds
* 3/4 cups muesli
* ½ tsp paprika
* ¼ tsp cayenne
* Salt, to taste
*Cool yogurt or whipped feta or combo of both

**Method**

1. Heat oven to 200°C. Toss carrots with oil and salt; roast 20–25 min.
2. Warm honey, lemon, and chili flakes; brush over carrots. Shower with cumin and coriander seeds, then roast 5–7 min more until caramelized.
3. On a tray, roast peanuts and almonds 8–10 min; add sesame, coriander, and cumin seeds for the last 2 min. Cool, then chop roughly.
4. Toast muesli until crisp; combine with chopped nuts, seeds, paprika, cayenne, and salt.
5. Spread yogurt or whipped feta on a plate, pile carrots on top, and finish generously with the muesli dukkah.

Banana Bread is always the O.G. Made and cherished by millions, it really is the stuff that launches a million ships. Growing up, I have to admit we were rather unaware of all these baked American, European concoctions. Meetha was different, a harkening back to simpler times.

Clearly times and preferences have changed. As well as diets.
At Nora Got Sweet Tooth, we are forever redistributing and rediscovering what exactly can be done to make recipes healthier, free of eggs, milk, margarine, dairy and still keep them delicious

Recipes are created, discarded, used for years and then revamped. As well hunker down for the long haul of Summer break in Karachi, we figured starting with Banana Bread just made sense.

Same Oats, same vegan, same dairy and egg free, same gluten free, same Sugar Free

And better taste

Drop us a line for a loaf of sheer Nora Got Sweet Tooth inspired joy that is our banana bread.

Nora Got Sweet Tooth is forever my main hustle. My full time job I got lucky with in so many way, is well sometimes a side bar:)
Nora Got Sweet Tooth Turns 10 on June 15th,2025. We started 2015, right when Nora turned 1. Nora is who it was named after. She loved gnawing on my random granola I would forever be making for home. When I was back, tinkering with ideas of what to do

Nora Got Sweet Tooth started. You had to be hiding under a stone in Karachi to not know we had begun. So ridiculously proud of how we took Karachi by a proverbial “storm.” By the number of granola and muesli places that have popped up. Even massive industrial names. Irritated initially, but reminded ourselves to GET OVER IT. We’re on Instagram as well “Nora Got Sweet Tooth” follow us

In between all this , Cair Paravel got a dog. Insha was born, Nora grew up. I moved from Sydney to Karachi, Kuwait, Bahrain and Tirana in this order. We expanded Vegan business to get in brownies, smoothie bowls, all things funky with black beans, oats, chickpeas and aqua faba.

The business forever needs more attention while we balance life away from Pak. The keening cry of always being stuck for summers to develop recipes,hustle more, to keep with our ethics of no freebies to influencers/influenza is consistent

So many plans. Forever foot in one door, neither in the house nor out. I think that’s what the story of an expat is. I am just an expat with a business Nora Got Sweet Tooth.

And Nora. The reason why I get inspired, why I create, why this business continues. And Noras father, Rameez Haider Loan, who is so frustrating, so wildly ambitious when it comes to me, his sister, that it belies any understanding. His dreams for Nora Got Sweet Tooth are big. With Nora growing up, I am inclined to agree with him

I am not home to celebrate this milestone with Nora. Cair Paravel would probably have gone out for dinner, ice cream, cut our decadent chocolate fudge cake

And be back to our hustling, for new recipes, new business, new dreams that Nora and I have.

All while hunched over the kitchen table, granola in bowl, laughter and despairing looks forever on our face

Happy Decade Nora Got Sweet Tooth. by @noragotsweettooth

Ours is a love affair for the ages. One that started the moment she was plopped on my lap, all of two months old. Born on the day of my youngest brother, Daniyals graduation, her entrance like her existence is a work of Art.

There hasn’t been a moment when going home hasn’t been about her and my father. Where watching her grow up has at times been my sole joy. Where I discover things I have zero patience for, like buying clothes, hunting for colour coordinated bags, or standing for make up.

The realization that she is not my extension, no matter how much I dream that, but a different part yet of me. The one that likes make up and fashion to a point I can not fathom, but for her try.Loving someone as much as I love her means learning to let go, learning to listen, learning to be an actual person who does rather than speak

The joy she brings me , has bought me over these 11 years can never be put in words. There’s a simplicity to that which would belie the complex nature of human feeling and emotions. She is the first thing I think of in the silence of the morning, my time calculations wondering what she is doing. As my night falls, she lingers in my thoughts as I walk back, mentally and emotionally spent, heading back to silence.

She delights Cair Paravel to a point no one can explain. She is dainty, poised and a proper young lady. Her mother’s daughter and credit through and through. She is also some parts non conforming, rebellious and pushing the envelope. Thats maybe some parts me and my differences, bit I think she will be more the lady, more the conformist than I would imagine or want.
And in that lies another adventure; to respect and honour the differences of personality from me, to see her become the woman she was destined to be.

I miss her childhood. I miss those moments so very much, Where everything was all about us with the joy, the innocence, the squealing, the discovery of everything I could offer her made her delirious with pleasure

Happy Birthday Partner of Nora Got Sweet Tooth, driving force behind the business. Happy Birthday my Natty Nora, Noorunissa

For You. All my life. All my existence.

Ramazan:

A throw back to less complicated, easier times; when Ramazan was a cacophony of enjoyment and Iftar and Baba running for Maghrib ki namaz, while we stayed on the iftaar table.

Where the deen and spirit of Ramazan would literally permeate from our house.

When someones hand would literally ALWAYS be found in the cookie jar. No matter how stuffed anyone might be.

And a chance for all those cooks, who are kicking it out of the ballpark with their wondrous home based concoctions, to raise the benchmark even higher!

www.noragotsweettooth.com for all your healthy, refined sugar free and vegan sweet treats this Ramazan.

Smoothie Bowls, Granola, muesli, pumpkin, chocolate banana, carrot, blueberry breads. Black bean brownies, . To name a few.

15 minutes left in 2024. Nora Got Sweet Tooth is forever grateful for the chances our customers take with us. We’re disappointed at a growth which is long over due because long distance relationships are always with their rough spots and sacrifices. We’re damn glad we are quirky as ever.

We love being not only dairy free but ACTUALLY vegan. Actually healthy, actually fun. We fervently wish the influencer and influenza culture would not be as obsessive as it is in Pakistan, because we know that we lose out by not partaking in sending our products to theinfluencers/influenza crowd. We are stubborn that way with our morals and ethics. But then we also bear the brunt of it.

May Bisma Loan’s political correctness remain as incorrect as ever, may Noorunissa Rameez Loans zest for life forever be the driving force behind everything that Nora Got Sweet Tooth is and what we aspire to be.

and may people in 2025, choose to take the leap of faith and believe that just because we’re different we actually might be really good and a healthy sort of way .

Nora Got Sweet Tooth- Forever different, forever never run of the mill, forever Bismas dream, driven by Noorunissa

Let us see what 2025 holds.

’ve discovered this year that no matter what I say or do, I end up choosing family. That is my inalienable and completely flawed truth. With baba not the baba I remember, the reality of life and mortality eats through me. Apparently a world without my father will exist. I can not run away from the reality of parents growing old. It gnaws away every day.

I choose family. A choice which means I sacrifice others. And now I will live with it. I believe that is what adults to. I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s incredibly lonely choices.

Tirana, Albania. I gave up a life I knew to move to a place I had only ever heard about. Toronto? I keep getting queried? Nopes, I say. It’s Tirana. The fear of turning up to a place I had no@idea about, a school I knew nothing much about. It was all summer. But I was like, okay, nothing can be Middle East bad. The escape route is there. Leave the .

Tirana has been everything a person who had zero expectations and healthy fear imagined it to be. Different, baffling, amusing and completely indifferent to if I was black, blue or orange. I’ve taken my Grade 12s to Brussels. Been told rather kindly, “Ms Loan lets keep google maps for Ms Dana. I think it isn’t you.” With 29 kids you bet your dollar it wasn’t!
With uttering threats of having 9pm curfews to being so proud when they would walk in way before actual curfews, see us even when outside and be delighted, shawarma in tow “Ms Loan! it IS HALAL!”
To threats of me keeping them with me all day met with “hey, you’re okay Ms B, it can’t be to bad!”

Tirana baffles me. The explorer in me still trying to shed the trauma of past experiences to open my mind to what this city has to offer me. To sign language which I revert to at times with so many people because I refuse to act the tourist. I live there. Ill figure it out.

I am figuring Tirana out. The kids like me
My identity is brown. But they could not care less . Neither could their parents
Wow. That is a new feeling by @noragotsweettooth

The kid said to read it on the plane. It was an incredibly long message, most of which I choose not to share here. I read it on my last leg back home. I didn’t cry, I didn’t react, I didn’t break into paean’s of thesis. I absorbed. I absorbed and remembered that it will always be me. I may not always be epic or perfect, but I am good. That for the past 3 years, my stints in the middle east have defined me by being brown. In the most insidious of ways. Bahrain was just my reality, way in my face. Thanks Riffa.

As the year wraps up, with one day left, I can say that I have achieved nothing this year. I have lost probably one of the most important things in my life, and I know that it is a choice I have made, and I will live with . I stick by it. More than that, I know that I need to look beyond the affirmation I seek from people and from life and even from being a good teacher. At 44, the aspirations seem to have taken on a new dimension and a new degree. While I’ve discovered the love of travel all over again, sometimes the travel makes me think of whether I am running away or whether this is what my life will be. Middle-aged perimenopause has come in full swing. I don’t particularly enjoy the acne that has come with it. But I keep thanking the Lord that it’s just on one side of my face. Lets hope it stays that way

It breaks my heart every time I leave Sugar. Nadia sent me a picture after my October break of sugar waiting for me outside the house door, because there’s always someone there who is ready to worship her all the time. That someone is me.

while I have made a choice to be abroad as long as I can, because I do not think I will fit back into Karachi society, I know I am sacrificing Nora and Insha growing up. At 44, a part of me wishes I had a child. I think I might’ve been a good parent. It always will remain the unanswered question in my life.

as the year finally wraps up, these pictures are small glimpse into the life that was this year. This brown person seems to live larger than life existence, and while I might change some things, I am learning that stability is what I need the most now .
2024- I bid adieu. All I have are the choices I make. by @noragotsweettooth

I loathe resolutions and promises and a post mortem of the last year and all stuff of new starts. It was an year, it passed, I turned 44 life continues. What I reflect on is always how the year goes and what I need to do better and what I need to do less. My faults are glaring and need forever work
As December 30 dawns, I am amused at certain inalienable truths. I left a toxic, absolutely filled to the brim with racist parents and an administration which acknowledged but did nothing about it, school in The Middle East. It isn’t every day a child ACTUALLY puts racist stuff in your classroom, mocking your background, because they imagined you threw their ball away. Yes. You heard right. In their universe it gave her the right to do that. On a ball.

That was the icing on the cake. Where parents actually asked me where I studied. One parent asked me “no, but where did you ACTUALLY come from.” On an imagined accent being hard to understand. It goes and on

I genuinely don’t know how I survived it. All of it. The toxic absurdity of being brown. Of looking around and seeing white people get jobs they are under qualified for. But Middle East western worshipping is real. The bubble, the insulated world they live in, because being white is all their resume needs
They most assuredly never get complaints on an accent. Even if it was Irish to the core.

Walking away from the punishment of being brown is intertwined with an yearning for which is always fulfilling with Nora and Insha growing up. Bahrain wasn’t for me. I disliked it, probably because of the school and its toxic population. But Bahrain wasn’t for me with distances and just life.
But kids growing up, coming home, working on Nora Got Sweet Tooth, being there for my parents were the things that have kept me going. The allure of the middle east will always be its phenomenal pay and distance to home, with Muslim holiday and choices. Apparently brown people can only be as good as dictated by stereotypes.

Turkey is always epic, traveling was always a dream. Discovery of new things, new chances, new everything. Moving twice has been traumatic at best, can’t lie about that one. But coming home is always a magic beyond by @noragotsweettooth
