Some morning drama !!! I had toned this sketch page with a mixture of ultramarine blue and sepia, to see how dark I could go.. I used @turnercolourworks acryl gouache for that underpainting, and then painted the pour over with traditional gouache. Once again, this intense underpainting forced me to find different way to approach this sketch/ study.. There's only one page left in my @royaltalensna sketchbook , and I get quite " antsy" and excited to finish it and start a new one.. I always make sure I have a new one waiting in the wings lol .. This is 5.5" x 8"... by @norakag

I'm sooo happy to say this piece is SOLD!! I'm always tickled and extremely happy when someone purchases one of my paintings!! This one is no exception :-)) This painting was inspired by a copyright free photo and I absolutely could not resist painting that goofy face and all that wonderful fur !! Thank you so much , @lizzie_and_the_doodles , and I hope you'll enjoy it for many years to come!! If you ask me which food I prefer ( not that you're asking , but whateverrrr) , then hands down it's Chinese.. I grew up with lots of Chinese people in my life , and it's always been the comfort food of choice for me, as it was for my mom, and is for my older brothers .. .. I cook it at home , as well, when I'm in the mood.. Anyway that's my story , and I'm just providing a bit of info. as to why many of my restaurant sketches are at the Chinese restaurant :-)) Here's another , that I quickly sketched , as this guy was waiting for his order to go .. I used my fude fountain pen, and then added some washes of neocolor2's when I got home later.. This was done in my @royaltalensna sketchbook .. Next!!! by @norakag

Another morning pour over study ( actually as fresh as coffee can be.. painted an hour ago!!😳🤣) .. This was done with gouache, and with a small fan brush , in my art creations sketchbook (5.5" x 8") , from @royaltalensna .. Yesterday, I went to my favorite @blick_carleplace to pick up a new sketchbook ( always have a backup lol), and a few goodies with a gift certificate. from a dear buddy @bine_mondo 😬😬😬 I always feel like a kid in a candy store when I'm there.. Here is another study , of some lovely forelle pears .. I've gone from never knowing they existed to painting them in at least 10-15 stilllife pieces.. Their subtleties of colors are so beautiful , and each time I paint them, it's a challenge .. I welcome the challenge with excitement, to see what I can create when inspired from such humble muses.. I did this one with traditional gouache , in my @royaltalensna sketchbook (5.5" x 8") .. I used a fan brush for the majority of this study . That brush helps me keep the strokes fairly loose and free , which I love .. by @norakag

Another restaurant sketch , done with my fude fountain pen , and I added some washes of neocolor 2's afterwards.. This was done in my @royaltalensna sketchbook , 8" x 5.5"... That pink ink in my fountain pen really seems to influence the look of the whole piece... It somehow always looks like candy lol . I'm not saying that's a negative thing , either.. just fun to work with... Next!!! @nycurbansketchers by @norakag

Sometimes, it's the simplest , most basic sketches that I love the most.. This was just a moment, in a small very strange little park area, and I sat there to sketch a few of the characters that were there.. This gentleman was sitting there chatting with two ladies, so I just took my pencil and quickly tried to capture him .. I've looked at this sketch and been tempted to add some color to it, with either washes of gouache, or maybe colored pencils , but I am leaving it as is.. I used a mechanical pencil , as I love the fine lines I can always get , and this was done in my @royaltalensna sketchbook.. With smudges and all , I am really pleased with this one.. I haven't done many morning pour over sessions lately , so here's one that's quite " intense" , color wise .. Using an intense color for the underpainting forces me to think differently about how I approach the painting study on top of it.. I usually don't go for intense colors, but this lovely one ( aubergine from @turnercolourworks )just couldn't be resisted lol .I'll try mixing it with other colors, next time, to subdue it .. The study was done with traditional gouache , and I only used a flat brush for the majority of it.. I did this in my @royaltalensna sketchbook (5.5" x 8") .. I've done 100's of these pour over studies and paintings, and surprisingly , each one presented new challenges and lessons.. muscle memory for the next one , as well... by @norakag

In honor of wonderful Autumn , I thought it a good day to repost this lovely furry gentleman( or lady) .. This is an original painting, done with traditional gouache, on an archival hot pressed watercolor paper.. It was inspired by a beautiful copyright free photo.. The size is 6" x 8", and it is AVAILABLE !!! Send me a message if you'd like to have him/ her adorning the wall of your home !! This was a fun one to do , as I felt all the way that it was a "play" session .. I'm using a bright colored ink in the fude fountain pen, and it's really interesting how different things look just because of an ink color.. It's also fun to see how the colors of the washes interact with that color as well.. These ladies were sitting quite far from where I was parked, ( at a nearby bagel shop) but I managed to get enough info . , visually, to sketch them .. The photo ( scroll) was quite zoomed out to just give you a general idea of what I was sketching.. I used my fude fountain pen , and added washes of @carandache neocolor 2's .. Once again , in this sketch, I've left quite a bit without color washes added, and I like that effect a lot ... This was done in my @royaltalensna sketchbook, 8" x 5.5" @nycurbansketchers by @norakag

Here is a small sketch that I did , from life , with only one @derwentart_us inktense pencil .. I've been playing more with them , to get more comfy and see where it takes me.. It's the simplest , lightest bit of kit to take along with a water brush, and just play.. This older gentleman at my local coffee place is quite an interesting character .. I've sketched him many times, with quite a few different mediums .. Each sketch looks so different , and has such a different character to them because of the uniqueness of each medium .. This was done in my @royaltalensna sketchbook .. it's almost time to start a new book , and I always make sure I have a new one waiting in the wings lol by @norakag

I might have "heightened " the sensuality of a pear in this one , but I still had fun with this !!! These gorgeous pears called to me at the market , and despite their higher price per pound, I bought a few to paint.. I did this still life study with traditional gouache , on an underpainting of @turnercolourworks acryl gouache.. It's always interesting to paint on an intense underpainting color , and figure out what works, what complements the colors and what doesn't work... The acryl gouache underpainting provides a lovely surface that helps strengthen the paper a bit, and has nice texture that really grips the paint on top.. This was done in my @royaltalensna sketchbook , 5.5" x 8".. Autumn is here , and I'm sooooo happy it's cooled off , and once again , pears just scream " autumn" to me..
