We are thrilled to share that 𝗞𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗔𝗞 is one of just 13 artists selected for the 2026 edition of the National Biennale of Contemporary Sculpture in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.⁣ ⁣ The 12th Biennale, Accumulating/Organizing, invites audiences to consider our relationships with consumption, objects, memory, identity, and language. Set against a socioeconomic landscape shaped by the simultaneous realities of abundance and scarcity, the exhibition explores how these forces continue to influence the ways we live, relate, and imagine our future.⁣ ⁣ On view at multiple sites throughout Trois-Rivières from June 27 - Sept 13, 2026.⁣ @bnsctr ⁣ 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘙𝘢𝘮 1500 (Big White Truck) ⁣ & 𝘏𝘶𝘵 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴⁣ ⁣ This series consists of five sculptures representing different vehicles that my family owned during my childhood: a gray Volkswagen Jetta, a white Buick Century, a blue Toyota RAV4, a burgundy Ram 1500 and a white Ram 1500. These vehicles evoke many memories, which is why I wanted to pay tribute to them and represent them in soapstone, also called steatite, an emblematic material of Inuit art.⁣ The smaller 4 carvings are inspired by Hot Wheels, objects of desire and nostalgia from mine and many others childhood. The title of these carvings, Hut Wheels, references the accent found in Inuvialuktun speakers; certain vowels found in English are not present in Sallirmiutun, our dialect of Inuvialuktun, so hot sounds more like hut. Trucks are a necessity in northern communities, despite the maintenance costs which are often double as expensive as prices in the south. In my mother’s community of Tuktoyaktuk, she noted that there is roughly 80% truck ownership, and this figure is common for other communities such as Inuvik and Aklavik. In these regions of the Northwest Territories, distances are vast and climatic conditions demanding, the truck is not simply a means of transportation: it is a tool for survival, an extension of home, a constant presence in daily life. taken in Trois-Rivières, Quebec by @norberghall

Dear Friends, It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and artist, JOHN WILL, who died peacefully on July 15, 2026, at the tender age of 87 years young. If John were writing this himself, he would almost certainly object to the solemnity, edit a few words, likely misspell them, insert a better punchline, and remind us that facts have always been overrated. He spent more than sixty years questioning certainty, celebrating contradiction, and finding humour in the wonderfully and woefully absurd business of being human. John’s practice is unlike anyone else’s. Through paintings, prints, photography, video, and works on paper, he transforms fragments of everyday language into works that are witty, biting, deeply thoughtful, and often laugh-out-loud funny. His work blurs the lines between truth and fiction, life and art, sincerity and satire, inviting us to question what we think we know while making us smile (or smirk) in the process. A commentator, chronicler, prognosticator, inventor, appropriator, comic, straight-man, prankster, jester, punster, gangster, and the original hipster. John delighted in resisting definition. He never claimed he was any good, but he sure as hell was great! He was one of Alberta’s most influential artists, a beloved professor at the University of Calgary for more than twenty-five years, and a mentor whose generosity shaped generations of artists. His work, held in major public and private collections across North America, makes an enduring contribution to Canadian contemporary art and continues to reshape how we think about art in and from Alberta. We feel incredibly fortunate to have represented John and to have called him our friend. It has been one of the great honours of our lives to have worked alongside someone whose curiosity never dimmed and whose wit remained razor-sharp until the very end. Earlier this year, the Art Gallery of Alberta opened John Will: Born in the U.F.O. (Some Truth, More Lies, All Legend), the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of his remarkable career. This past weekend we had the immense joy of celebrating the one and only John Will: the man, the myth, the legend. A true OG in every sense, John has long been a kind of cultural prognosticator, always a few steps ahead, reading the moment before the rest of us catch up. And now, finally, we have the chance to catch up, at least physically. For those who know him, you know his impact extends far beyond the work itself. His wit, generosity, and presence have helped shape art in Alberta beyond big skies and prairie panoramas. It was incredibly moving to see so many people gather to celebrate him and more than 60 years of practice. Jarvis and I are filled with deep gratitude to the Art Gallery of Alberta for bringing this exhibition together and for giving John his much deserved flowers. Congratulations, dear John. Featuring prints, paintings, photography, video and works on paper, John Will: Born in the U.F.O. will be the largest and most complete exhibition of John Will’s work to date. Will is known for his humour, play with notions of truth, and a fascination into his own place in the world as an individual and an artist. His satirical and insightful paintings and works on paper are created through a process of collecting fragments of language from a wide variety of sources: news, popular media, adages, slang as well as found and taken photographs to re-work them into insightful, often hysterical and sometimes uncomfortable new interpretations.⁣ ⁣ This exhibition is organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta and curated by Catherine Crowston. @youraga @catherinecrowston ⁣ About the Artist:⁣ John Will (b. 1939, Waterloo, Iowa) is a senior Alberta-based painter, photographer, printmaker, and performance artist whose career spans more than six decades. 𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗥𝗔 𝗠𝗘𝗦𝗭𝗔𝗥𝗢𝗦 | 𝘐’𝘮 𝘕𝘰 𝘈𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘭 🚫❤️‍🔥🚫⁣ _____________________⁣ ⁣ “Sondra’s pencil crayon drawings take cues from a collection of 1930’s-1940’s ‘flirt-pins; obsessively collected over 7 years. The original hand-made pins were used as a short-hand for communicating to signal through wearing. The pinbacks were re-purposed from leftover political pins used for campaigns. The graphic design of these pins shares a lot with punk pins and zines from the 1970’s-1990’s. By blowing up the pins to grungy cool jumbo versions they become hyper signifiers for identity. Sondra says: “It’s important that the rust is on the buttons; they were chosen based on their wear and tear. There is some sort of history, or a past love of wearing it. The rust becomes active evidence of disrupting the text. It was one of my favourite parts to draw. To me, the cast shadows are really a pantina too.
