From the Sonoran Desert to the peaks of Flagstaff, Arizona. 250 miles, almost 40,000 feet of climbing. Three days, two nights, and one performance that rewrites the record books.Rachel Entrekin just became the first woman in history to win the Cocodona 250 outright. Not just the women’s race but the entire field. And she didn’t just win it. She took down the overall course record in the process, besting the previous mark set just one year ago.In six editions of this race, no woman has ever stood atop the overall podium. Rachel didn’t just break that barrier, she obliterated it. From the Bradshaw Mountains through the red rock canyons of Sedona, she ran near the front of the entire field before taking the lead near the historic mining towns of Jerome and Crown King. She never looked back, carrying that lead through the ponderosa pine forests of Flagstaff, then up and over the ruggedly steep Mount Elden all the way to the finish line downtown.None of it happens without the people who carried her through the dark miles. Her crew, pacers, and support team were the heartbeat behind this record, keeping her fueled, focused, and moving with purpose through the cold nights and brutal climbs. The clock struck midnight, and a mass of humanity surged across the start line at the Madeira Island Ultra-Trail 110K, leaving the town of Porto Moniz to plunge into the unknown. And, at the front of the pack, united in sweat and spirit with his peers was @run__ethan. Just last year, the Madeira course needed a significant re-routing due to a wildfire, but this year it approximated its original layout, a stunning accomplishment in trail maintenance and rehabilitation. And across Madeira’s soaring climbs and swooping descents, Ethan’s unique blend of inspiring fortitude and unbridled joy was on full display.Moving swiftly through the lush greenery of the Laurisilva forest, climbing near the summit of Pico Ruvio as the morning light sliced through the darkness, charging up the famous stone steps to the breathtakingly exposed Pico do Areeiro thousands of feet above the ocean’s raging waters as the rain tickled the stone footholds, then plunging back down from the heavens to cement his place as one of the first five to cross the finish line in Machico, Ethan conquered each kilometer with gusto.Congratulations on a race well run, Ethan.
