💭 (thoughts): Having been to both of Nori Shinn’s sister restaurants (13 Water and Shinn East) I came in pretty confident about their fish quality, and the food definitely lived up to expectations🙂‍↕️ Nori Shinn is a great spot for anyone craving fresh fish without spending a fortune on omakase. And what I really appreciated was how the restaurant leans into simplicity🤍 A handroll really is just fish, rice, and seaweed🍚 That, coupled with the no-tipping, walk-in-only model also brings back a refreshing sense of simplicity, especially in a city where securing a Resy feels like a competitive sport. Beyond the concept, the fish was excellent from start to finish and I’d 100% recommend giving it a try ☺️ by @norishinn

Easily one of new favorite hand roll bars in NYC

.. and it’s no-tipping!

They nail the fresh closed hand rolls, and I found the filling quality and quantity to be much more consistent than Kazu Nori. 🙊

@norishinn recently opened in east village, from the team behind thirteen water and shinn east/west. i’ve actually never been to kazunori but supposedly these handrolls are even more generous 👀

featuring:
❀ thirteen water set
❀ uni (seasonal special)
❀ yuzu cocktail

would highly recommend one of the sets which comes with 5 handrolls for <$36. we were super full by the end and loved the overall pacing of the meal! perfect for both a “treat yourself” solo moment or a fun meal with friends 💖

The biggest hand rolls AND no tipping? This spot was busy and for good reason. No hate to Kazunori but I think this spot gotta take the cake for this concept. First of all, the restaurant is huge so they can accommodate more people at once instead of having to stand in line for a long time. Secondly, the prices are comparable but I think the handrolls here are noticeably larger! It’s a win win situation 👏 we got both the Nori Shinn ($34) set and the Thirteen Water ($38). The only common hand roll is the spicy tuna. The notable rolls for the Nori Shinn is the crab and the avocado eel - both so creamy and a burst of flavor. The Thirteen water set had a scallop roll and a lobster roll that were both delicous. Between the two, I prefer the Nori Shinn just because the crab one has my heart 🙂‍↕️ we visited early around 6:15 but by the time we left, there was already a line forming so be sure to come early to avoid crowds! As mentioned, it’s no tipping so the meal was relatively inexpensive for a nice sushi dinner. If you love budget omakase/sushi, definitely come check them out!
