Tilt Towards Return is up at @monaco_usa until December 10th Photos by @goodartdoc
“Tilt Towards Return navigates the spaces between nature and the built world through systems of shape, pattern, and form created using methods of printmaking and sculpture. Pakradooni creates a lexicon of glyphs that cipher and diffuses the entanglement of image and ornament associated with plant life, considering the slippage between function and beauty. Reflecting on the deep historical relationship of print to the decorative arts, works engage with applications of print to textile and paper surfaces alike.
Working in the printmaking method of monotype, the surface of her 2D works is created through layers of transparent information, a logic shared by their sculptural counterparts through the use of translucent silks and physical voids in their forms. The world-building in this exhibition is a call and response of discrete and intertwined processes, in which iteration builds association and elaboration in the relationship between flat and dimensional works. The sculptures act as supports for printed fabrics and paper, disregarded prints are recycled into sculptural material, and prints reflect shape and form within the sculptures themselves. These rhythms of symbiosis and separation are emphasized in reflection and removal in which elements are repeated, lost, or elaborated over individual works. “

It is the last few days of Folded Group curated by Bill Nace and Kim Gordon. March 19–May 17, 2026, Amant, Brooklyn, NY. Being in the company of other artists who also create both visual work and music, (including dear friends) has been a fortunate context to sit in during the run of this exhibition. Usually we are on a bill for one night, in conversation for the more fleeting experiance of music and performace.

The artwork that was included is about dissonance, two completing but nearly identical images vibrating on the same plane, itself folding into a misbehaving surface. The images are broken loops, cascading like ribbons in the air; no longer holding anything together.

Sending off the blur of summer months. Baked in the sun, boiled, sewed, printed, sawed, painted, drew, recorded, sang, sanded, pulped, glued, screwed, etched, stained, dyed, erased, traced, nailed, screen-printed, photographed, and more in the studio ahead of something on the horizon. Polly put rainbows on everything, took us swimming, into books, and on roadtrips to friends. I (got to) read more this summer than I have in the past four summers combined. It’s a wild age— for earth and I. I am greeting my personal new year with equal parts focus and the low hum of attention seeking noise and visions that call out for time/space by @normalposition

Artist Feature: Tether

Lauren Pakradooni is an interdisciplinary artist who creates visual art and music that uses pattern and interference to reflect slippages between the built and natural worlds. For 20 years she’s been making music under the monikers Tether, Pak, and her own name. Her sound is structured by cassette tape loops that carry fragments of recorded sound into assemblages of wavering structures. Pakradooni layers and manipulates loops to build patterns that carve out specific song formation through the rhythm of each loop’s physical revolution. Her sound takes on space through density and sparseness that either reveal or bury the process of making.

Tether plays on Friday, October 2

Artist Spotlight: Lauren Pakradooni ✨

My work engages with the systems that shape both the natural and built environments to examine lived human experience. Through sculpture, printmaking, and installation, I investigate how pattern, interference, and ornament articulate states of flux within bodies, ecosystems, and cultural histories. The physical structures of botanical and architectural forms, each composed of recurring motifs, serve as both subject and conceptual framework. By working through processes of repetition, layering, and translation, I seek to understand how architectural and organic systems reflect one another and reveal the social and cultural conditions that define them.

My practice operates across analog and digital modes of making, combining hand drawing, etching, and screenprinting with scanning and digital manipulation. Glitches, distortions, and feedback loops are welcomed as generative moments that expose the instability of reproduction and invite transformation. These visual ruptures function as metaphors for material and systemic fragility, connecting technological processes to natural phenomena such as the mutation of “fascinated” flowers. I am interested in these moments as sites where breakdown and adaptation coexist, reflecting the vulnerability and resilience inherent to both ecological and human systems.

Sculptural forms in my work are constructed from printed silk or paper, which is sewn or wrapped around wooden, wire, or foam armatures. These hybrid structures suggest architectural thresholds, stage sets, or gardens, where spatial arrangement and transparency invite the viewer to look across, through, and between. Physical voids within these installations create porous environments that emphasize passage, instability, and interconnection rather than fixed arrival. Through these formal strategies, I consider how spatial experience can embody temporal and material fragility.

I am showing drawings (and sculptures) in a group show at Automat curated by Lexi Arrietta with artists Megan Feniak, Rah Gerg, Rochelle Voyles and myself.

A detail of my drawing “Flight” is featured in the exhibition, this is from a series of drawings that connected Lexi and I through our shared artist interests. What first got me here were a moth’s dusty wings. Graphite (the material I am using here) moves in the same slippery feeling of your fingers re-erupting the surface of the wing; the image (pattern of scale like sturctures on the wings) is broken by the touch of the hand. The same is true of these drawings; the graphite is adhered but layered in such a way that the outermost surface grips itself, ready to depart the paper and lift off.

The process for creating my pounce drawings could be catorgorized in the technique “Spolvero” — a name with with origins in Italy but used all over, so seems hardly something that emerges, but rather has always been there. For my process I create drawings, which I then translate onto folded paper using sewing needles (via hand and machine, pushpins, and other sharp pins to create holes through folded layers of paper. Through the manner of folding, I achieve different iterations and sequences of the image in full or partial repetition. Mirroring, glitches, and breaks in the repeats create a relationship with the once-folded paper. This becomes a stencil or template that I push graphite and pigment through onto a prepared sheet of paper below.

Pounce as a verb implies catching something, overpowering it— these drawings are not that, they are fleeting- pricklily objects. by @normalposition

@etcetcbooks (@blahblahgallery ‘s neighboring store) is hosting some of my artwork among their excellent curation of printed matter, books, magazines, and artist prints. My sculptures often use formal principles of book structure as well as elements of book construction, so this feels good on a few levels. Not featured here is my A2 size two color color riso poster, available in the shop. I took some install shots of using my 20 year old point and shoot digital camera. Wicks, monotype on silk and wood, 17 x 33 x 16”
Flickers, monotype on silk and wood, 22 x 33 x 16”

These sculptures operate mostly as a pair, leaning in and away from their respective smoke/flames. I finished these almost a year ago and they have been in my studio like the screens they reference, dividing the space, each other, and the ability to see all of the pieces at the same time.

Blinkers
John H. Baker Gallery
West Chester University
E.O. Bull Center for the Arts
2 E Rosedale Ave, West Chester, PA 19383
October 22 – December 12th 2025

The exhibition Blinkers brings together eight artists whose practices center on
transformation and change. Through diverse media and formal experimentation, their
works highlight time, process, and the layered complexity of perception. In this exhibition,
process becomes presence, material carries metaphor, and identity emerges through both
the visible and hidden textures of making.
Like turning on a blinking turn signal, the artists in this show alert us to a heightened sense
of looking. On the foreground of these works, we encounter relationships of shape and
color, which evolve into complex relationships of grounded personal symbols, imaginative
forms, and material maneuvers.

This exhibition has been co-organized by Kris Benedict and Lauren Pakradooni. Works will
be on view from October 22nd until December 11th, 2025, in the John H Baker Gallery
located within the Department of Art + Design at West Chester University. The gallery is
open to the public from 8 am until 4 pm Monday-Friday at E.O. Bull Center for the Arts 2 E
Rosedale Ave, West Chester, PA 19383. The building is ramp accessible. The opening
reception will begin with an Artist’s talk at 4pm and conclude at 6pm on Wednesday,
October 22nd.
Please reach out to lpakradooni@wcupa.edu or kbenedict@wcupa.edu for a

Cutting in Somewhere (Parting Walls)
Aquatint Etching with chine colle using handmade recylced paper from discarded printing proofs.
16 1/2 x 19” Edition of 5, 2025

This print depicts two intertwined systems, one structural, the other vascular, referencing the inner workings of both leaves and bodies. At the time, I was thinking about the decorative complexity of Dürer’s knots and how they reveal an artist actively working through a design problem, making that exploration the primary purpose of the work. Similarly, my print forms a closed system, or loop, not only in its imagery but also in its material: it is printed on handmade paper I created by recycling discarded printing proofs.

This print is currently on view in “The Frequency” a works on paper exhibition curated by @hen_pen_ @marginaleditions At Brood Works, @broodworks 100 N 3rd St, Brooklyn, NY From October 3- Ocotber 10. -AND-it’s available at etc. etc. in Philadelphia, PA in flat file ;) @etcetcbooks. .
