Have you bought your seeds yet?! Maybe 2021 is the year you grow some veggies on your stoop! There has been humongous growth in the amount of people buying seeds and it has caused many companies we support like @johnnys_seeds and @fedcoseeds to limit orders. The good thing is it gives us an opportunity to try seeds from other companies. If you’re wondering where else to get seeds we’ve compiled this list for you. Also be sure to check out your local hardware store or garden center like Farmer Henry here a few years back picking up some seeds at @cresthardware.

Let’s help the city find a new vendor for this massive open space. Mayor de Blasio just terminated the Trump organization contract on this golf course, a for-profit business venture that Trump was operating on city land.

Now is the time to find active uses for this public space, and others, that will ensure the health of our city’s communities and allow them to flourish. The team behind North Brooklyn Farms would gladly work to help make it happen!!

Farm family! 🚨🌺 @ambertamm has a vision for farming in every public park in NYC, centering her efforts on Central Park’s Great Lawn, where she envisions 13.75 acres of community-driven farming - food produced by and for the people, distributed to folks in need free of charge. 🌿
.
We are looking at huge numbers of food insecure people in the wake of COVID-19. Not to mention ever expanding economic and racial inequality. We must grow more food in this city! All people deserve access to land and healthy food. 🥒🌶🍅✊

In between all the marches and rallies and celebrations today tune in to @agrowingculture for an all day Juneteenth Broadcast from incredible Black voices in the food system 🌿

Including @ambertamm and her vision for farming in @centralparknyc at the historic site of Seneca Village 🌺
.
Seneca Village was a thriving autonomous African American community in 1820-1850s in what would later become Central Park. Folks there farmed and raised livestock and built their lives until the land was taken via eminent domain by the city of New York.

The soil that we stand on and we plant in has a history, and to bring forth food from the earth is to be a part of that history.
.
This land was taken from native people by force, through murder and disease and war and debt. On this stolen land we built our farmsteads and plantations and carved out our pastures. Enslaved black people were forced with violence and terror to work this land - they planted these fields, grew the cotton, the tobacco, the rice that amassed profits for the slaveowners and the state. The wealth of a nation was built on their bodies. The soil we plant in today holds this history.
.
If we care for the land and the plants then we must take action now to care for marginalized people. We challenge you to take that stimulus money and give it to Black-led organizations fighting for justice and mutual aid networks providing relief to marginalized communities.
.

Thinking back today on winter travels and the incredibly inspiring work taking place in #mexicocity 🌿 Huerto Roma Verde @huertoromaverde is one of the most incredible community agriculture projects we have ever heard of or visited.
.
In 2010, the community rallied around a lot that had been abandoned for 27 years. They took it upon themselves to clear it of garbage and a massive amount of debris (a building had been demolished on the site as a result of the 1985 earthquake) and turn it into a public agricultural green space.
.
Today Huerta Roma Verde has a cafe and farm store, pottery studios, a community medical facility, artist-in-residence housing, classrooms, a greenhouse, a traditional sauna, incredible public art installations, community plastic recycling via @realpreciousplastic and more.
.
In this moment of considerable pain and clear governmental neglect, it’s important to remember that we have the power to better ourselves and our communities and look to inspiring projects for guidance 🌿
.
Sending love to all the folks in Roma and Mexico City in this trying time 💚
