POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
While North Buffalo Preparedness Group is no longer physically based in North Buffalo following our move to Niagara County, our name still tells the story of where we began.

NBPG was founded near the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Amherst Street, in the Park Meadow neighborhood of North Buffalo. It was our home, and it remains an important part of who we are.

Watching the devastating flood and seeing Buffalo firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, and other responders working to protect and assist those in need hit particularly close to home. So did seeing businesses and residents in a neighborhood we once called home confronting the impacts of a disaster unfolding around them.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected, and our appreciation goes to the first responders and others who answered the call.

But preparedness also asks us what comes next.

As affected businesses recover, and as businesses throughout North Buffalo consider what an incident like this could mean for their own operations, North Buffalo Preparedness Group is offering complimentary comprehensive risk assessments to local businesses.

These assessments are intended to help businesses take a broader look at their risks and vulnerabilities, identify potential operational impacts, and begin considering future preparedness and disaster-mitigation needs and investments.

There is no charge for the assessment. This is simply one way we can give something back to the community where our story began and help local businesses turn the lessons of today into greater resilience tomorrow.

If your business is interested, please message North Buffalo Preparedness Group directly through Facebook or email RyanCaughillEM@gmail.com.

North Buffalo may no longer be where we’re headquartered.

But it will always be where we came from. by @northbuff_prepgroup

🔴 A SMALL INVESTMENT IN BETTER TRAINING

At North Buffalo Preparedness Group, when we conduct training and exercises, we want to do them the right way. That means creating realistic scenarios while keeping them controlled, coordinated, and safe.

So, we recently made a small but worthwhile investment in something new for NBPG: our first purpose-purchased training aids.

Throughout 2026, we have conducted numerous scenario-based drills for one of our clients, including scenarios involving unattended bags and bomb threats. We now have a dedicated bright-red training bag, clearly marked with a yellow “TRAINING ONLY” patch and NBPG identification. It gives us a distinct, reusable training prop that can be incorporated into exercises without creating unnecessary ambiguity, particularly when training occurs during normal business operations. As always, exercises and placement of training materials are coordinated with the client beforehand.

We have also added a Bluetooth speaker to our training kit. Why?

Because simulated gunfire during an active-assailant exercise does not require anyone firing a weapon.

We’ve all seen training videos where attempts at “realism” introduce unnecessary risk. Instead, controlled audio allows us to introduce environmental stress and realistic sound cues while keeping the exercise safe and manageable. Participants can experience some of the confusion and sensory elements they may encounter during an actual emergency without turning the exercise itself into a hazard.

They’re simple tools. They’re not particularly expensive. But good training isn’t about how much the equipment costs. It’s about how thoughtfully you use it.

We’re looking forward to putting both into immediate use with our clients through the remainder of 2026, and this is only the beginning of building out NBPG’s dedicated training and exercise capabilities.

More training-aid updates to come!

⚠️ Plan realistically. Train safely. Exercise deliberately.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

North Buffalo Preparedness Group and Buffalo History Museum Sign Consulting Agreement Through 2030

Buffalo, New York — North Buffalo Preparedness Group (NBPG) is proud to announce that it has reached and signed a long-term consulting agreement with the Buffalo History Museum, securing professional preparedness and resilience consulting services through the year 2030.

Under the agreement, NBPG will provide strategic consulting, annual seminars, training drills, exercise development, emergency preparedness planning, and advisory services designed to support the continued safety, readiness, and operational resilience of the Museum, its staff, visitors, collections, and special events.

The partnership formally began this April with the launch of the inaugural Annual Seminar and Drills and will continue with seasonal preparedness initiatives throughout the Spring and beyond.

“This agreement reflects a shared commitment to protecting one of Buffalo’s most treasured institutions while setting a strong standard for preparedness in the cultural and museum sector,” said Ryan M. Caughill, Founder of North Buffalo Preparedness Group.

The Buffalo History Museum remains one of the region’s most significant civic and historical landmarks, and this partnership aims to ensure that preservation of history is matched by investment in future readiness.

⚠️🚨 SIMULATED GUNSHOT

At North Buffalo Preparedness Group, we’ve been watching stories like this with growing concern: organizations conducting “active assailant exercises” where participants are subjected to blank gunfire or simulated attacks with no warning.

That’s not training. That’s trauma.

Preparedness must be built on trust, clarity, and professionalism. Participants come to these exercises to learn and be empowered — not to question if their lives are in danger.

Immersion has its place, but it must be responsibly designed. That means:

•	Clear expectations before the exercise starts.
•	Transparency about what participants will see, hear, and experience.
•	Respect for the audience — teachers, staff, or employees who deserve better than surprise and shock.

When shortcuts are taken, the result is predictable: communities grow more resistant to active assailant training. That makes everyone less safe.

At NBPG, our mission is different. We design exercises that challenge, immerse, and teach — while respecting participants and best practices. We hold ourselves to a higher standard because lives, trust, and resilience are on the line.

Preparedness should never cause harm. It should build confidence.

If your organization is ready for training that actually makes you safer, let’s talk.

Statement on Today’s Tragic Incident on I-90 (Thruway) Near Pembroke

North Buffalo Preparedness Group received distressing news of a serious tour bus crash on Interstate 90 near Pembroke. The accident, involving a bus returning from Niagara Falls, resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries. Local emergency services—including Mercy Flight, police, and hospitals—are managing rescue and medical care under extraordinarily difficult circumstances.

Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all those affected. Special gratitude to the first responders and health care professionals working tirelessly on the scene.

We remain on alert and ready to assist local authorities and partners as needed in the continuation of rescue and recovery efforts. taken in Buffalo, New York by @northbuff_prepgroup

This past week, North Buffalo Preparedness Group proudly completed a complimentary risk assessment for the Buffalo History Museum’s “Waterways of Change” exhibit at the Longhouse at Canalside.

In light of recent incidents in the surrounding area, we stepped in to support this important bicentennial installation of the Erie Canal, ensuring public safety and continuity for an event that reflects the deep, ongoing story of Buffalo’s relationship with its waterways.

Our work focused on identifying potential vulnerabilities and helping museum leadership make informed decisions—another example of our commitment to protecting maritime heritage, cultural institutions, and community resilience.

NBPG is honored to stand with those who preserve Buffalo’s history.

Our Council President, Ryan Caughill, is currently working his way through all 16 #CriticalInfrastructure Sectors and their sub sectors, in a series of articles on disaster preparedness in each sector titled “Securing the Backbone.”

Today, he released his second article, which covered the #DefenseIndustrialBase. This is timely, as Ryan connects real world issues, such as the ongoing delays with the next generation of US Navy ships, to advocate for more investment and implementation of disaster management functions to, as he put it, “absorb shock.”

Throwing it back to our inaugural first responder orientation at the Buffalo and Erie County Natal & Military Park (March 2024)…

Unfortunately too many units were out of service already, so they couldn’t go out. This is the end result. Very thankful for the collaboration, as Buffalo Fire kept coming back, ensuring they completed the orientation while responding to calls across the city.

Thank you Engine 1, Ladder 2, Special Operations (E21/L6/R1/B55), Battalion 3 (B43), and F40 (Safety Officer).

What do you see here?

This is USS The Sullivans, a decommissioned, Second World War/Cold War era Fletcher class destroyer. In April of 2022, she suffered a hull breach, partial sinking her to the nearby river bed of the Buffalo River.

She’s not any regular 911 call. She isn’t even just a vessel. She was made for war. Today, she’s 1 of 3 vessels that make up the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park.

She doesn’t just hold artificers, she is one. She is both a museum, and an artifact. Her preservation, and her disasters, are challenging and unique.

We are PROUD to provide disaster management & consulting services to the Buffalo Naval Park, and we are experts in solving your most challenging of challenges. It’s what we do. It’s North Buffalo Preparedness Group. taken in Buffalo, New York by @northbuff_prepgroup
