Cornfields are some of the best places for spotting fall migration rarities this time of year. Last year, a Pink-footed Goose was hanging around with a flock of Canada Geese. You just never know! taken in East Montpelier, Vermont by @northeasternick

There aren’t enough words to express how coming out changed my life for the better and for the worse, but all of the most difficult parts were from outside circumstances. I don’t blame that hopeful mother who thought maybe the right clothes or makeup would finally make her feel more like a woman. She was doing the best she could with what she had. The internal dialogue that finally surfaced in my late 40s were echos of her/my own encouragement to myself to change something before I turned 50. I feel immense privilege even being able to post this and yet there are corners of my work life where I try to be invisible. But if this helps even one person feel like you’re never too old to transition, then it is all worth it. Also, may all trans kids one day be elders. ❤️ #nationalcomingoutday #protecttranskids by @northeasternick

I never really considered a bird feeder at my apartment especially with all the squirrels, but I finally saved up for a fancy feeder. Featuring one of the most gorgeous autumn trees on the block. Don’t pass up urban foliage and the city birds! I’ve been delighted by these Tufted Titmice who seem to have claimed this spot. taken in Montpelier, Vermont by @northeasternick

Getting to be that time when the days get shorter and the evenings are colder. Fall migration, full of hope and melancholy. At the same time, new lifer today - American Wigeon! I’ve got so many cool things lined up for October, such as my first @birdability event. Details soon! (Also who’s doing #iNatTogether? @inaturalistorg ) by @northeasternick

Remembering this gorgeous sunset over Delta Park last fall. Truly hoping I can get out there again before fall migration is over! taken in Delta Park, Colchester VT by @northeasternick

A deer family trio ambling up the river and a Common Merganser heading down river at @northbranchnaturecenter this morning. Not a lot to hear other than Catbirds (“mehhhh!”) but I did see a very annoyed Overbird, which was a highlight. Saw my first Canada Geese “v” over Cumberland Farms of fall! by @northeasternick
