✨ Hi, I'm Liz 👋🏼💙

Whether you’ve been following along for a while or you’re new here, welcome to North West Mini Adventures - and thank you for being here! 😊

With lots of new followers recently, I thought it was about time I properly introduced myself!

I’m Liz, mum to two little explorers, aged 2 and 4, and the person behind this little corner of Instagram - and usually the one behind the camera! 👋🏼📸

We’re based around Worsley, Manchester, so you’ll find a mixture of local gems and activities, as well as days out across the wider North West - and sometimes a little further afield when somewhere looks worth the drive! 🚗

My husband and I are busy working parents with two young kids and, like most families, life can feel pretty non-stop! 😅 So we really treasure the time we get together and try to make the most of our weekends, days off and holidays during these fleeting early years 🥰

We’re always out and about exploring when we can be - partly because I think the kids really benefit from getting out, exploring and burning off some of that energy! 😂😅

Sometimes it’s a big family day out, sometimes it’s a walk or hike, a new park, a café, somewhere we’ve never been before or occasionally even a little weekend away/staycation.

I’ve always loved taking photos and videos and documenting our family memories, and I eventually decided to turn that into North West Mini Adventures - a place where I could share the places we discover along the way 🫶

But I also really wanted this page to be useful for other families too. Days out can be SO expensive these days, time off is limited, and sometimes you just want to know… is it actually worth taking the kids?! 😂

So, here you’ll find family days out, local activities, hidden gems, walks and outdoor adventures, seasonal things to do, staycations, cafés, budget-friendly ideas and honest reviews of the places we visit and enjoy! 🌿🎟️🏰🛝🦒🎡☕️

🍂 Looking for a lovely autumn walk with the kids? 🌳🧡

Alderley Edge is such a lovely spot for a family adventure! ✨

Here’s what you can discover on a visit:
🥾 Woodland trails full of interesting things to discover
🪨 Impressive rock formations and rocky viewpoints
🪵 A natural play area, where little adventurers can climb, balance and explore
🌄 Views from the Edge stretching towards Manchester
🧙‍♂️ The Wizard tea room for coffee and cake or a lunch stop before or after your walk
✨ The local legend of the Alderley Edge Wizard adding a little extra magic

🚗 Parking: National Trust car park - £5 for up to 4 hours or £8 for the full day. Free for National Trust members

🚻 Toilets: Available in the car park

There’s a lovely mix of walking, exploring and play, making it a great option for a family day out! It's also lovely place to see some gorgeous autumn colours, collect some conkers and stomp through crunchy leaves 🍁🌰😍

🎃 A little bit of Hogwarts magic meets Halloween on the farm! 🪄🧙‍♂️ Harry Potter fans, this one’s for you! ⚡️🖤

We visited Lancaster Park & Animal Farm for their Halloween event and the Wizard School was such a highlight!

As you enter, you’re surrounded by Hogwarts-inspired scenes, with floating candles overhead and house banners to choose from before sitting your entrance exam! 🏰✨

Then it’s time to meet Professor Snape, learn spells, make potions and get some photos with Snape and the witch. And honestly, Snape was SO in character! 😂👏

But there’s more to Halloween on the farm than wizardry! 🎃

🎪🎃 A circus, but make it Halloween! 🖤

We visited Gandeys Halloween Spooktacular at the Trafford Centre and it was packed with incredible performances and spooky surprises! 👀

🧙‍♀️ Halloween-themed acts inspired by Thriller, Squid Games, Labubu and more!

🤸 Acrobats pulling off blind flips, jaw-dropping tightrope stunts and incredible aerial performances

🔥 Fire juggling, dance acts, and the clown bringing all the laughs

🏍️ Multiple motorbikes racing inside the Globe of Death!

And of course, there were circus treats too, with popcorn, candy floss, snacks and drinks available! 🍿🍭

The perfect indoor option for a Halloween day out, whatever the weather! 🎃🙌🏻

🎃👻 Looking for a family-friendly Halloween light trail? Take a look at this! 👀✨

We visited The Magical Woodland at Blakemere Village for the first time and loved how there was a bit of everything spooky to discover around every corner! 🌲🌌

From 👽 aliens and creepy circus scenes with clowns 🤡 to a 🏚️ broken dolls’ house, 🤖 Transformers, 🦖 dinosaurs, 🏴‍☠️ pirates and witches! 🧙‍♀️✨

Plus all the spooky classics, ghosts, ghouls, glowing pumpkins, magical lights, a gorgeous light tunnel and photo spots everywhere you turned! 📸👻

The Magical Woodland Halloween light trail strikes the perfect balance between spooky and family friendly. There was so much to see and explore, making it a fantastic Halloween experience for families! 🧡

They also have food and drink stalls and marshmallow toasting around the fire pits, so you can grab a bite to eat and make a lovely evening of it! 🔥✨

🎃✨ The lakeside Halloween trail everyone is talking about 👀… Have you discovered the magic of Halloweenville yet? 🌌🪄

I visited with my daughter and I totally get the hype around this event now! 🧡

We had the most magical evening following the illuminated trail around the lake, with glowing pumpkin lanterns, a spooky spiderweb tunnel, a bat cave and many more spooky surprises… 🦇🌙🕸️

Along the way, we met the Mayor of Halloweenville, witches, skeleton pirates and a knight on an adventure quest to defeat the Skeleton King and save Halloweenville! 💀⚔️

There was so much to discover as we made our way around the lake, and the actors were brilliant at bringing the whole story to life! 🧙🏻‍♀️✨

The atmosphere was fantastic, with themed food and drinks, games, live music and marshmallow toasting at both the start and end of the trail! 🔥🎃

👻 But is it too scary for little ones?
We found it much more of a fun, spooky adventure! The characters were brilliant at adapting to younger children too, making it an enjoyable experience 🧡

🍂 Our top 10 walks for Autumn colours in Manchester & Cheshire 🍁

Autumn is the perfect excuse to get outside and enjoy all those gorgeous autumn colours, crunchy leaves and woodland walks 🍂

So I’ve put together 10 of our favourite spots for an autumn walk, from easy family-friendly strolls to countryside walks with beautiful views 🙌

And best of all, they’re all free (with just a small parking fee at some locations)! 🙌🍂

👻 Everything you need to know about Farmer Ted’s at Halloween! 🎃👀

We visited for the Pumpkin Festival, but there is SO much more to explore here 👀 From the Shaun the Sheep themed adventure park and animal areas, to the adventure playground, toboggan, zip wires, jumping pillows, go-karts and Jurassic Tedventure 🦖… there is so much here to keep the kids entertained

Then there’s all the Halloween fun too... wand making, Sorcery School, the spooky maize maze, Spooky Shaun the Sheep show and even the chance to meet Shaun! 🐑🪄👻

And of course, there’s the Pumpkin Festival, which is included in your entry ticket 🎃 with a huge pumpkin patch, marshmallow toasting, American-style displays and loads of gorgeous photo opportunities 🤎

We didn’t use the indoor areas on our visit, but there’s indoor soft play and animal barns too, which is handy if the weather isn’t on your side !🛝

I’d definitely recommend this one if you’re looking for a full day out - you get the whole adventure park AND all the Halloween & Pumpkin Festival fun included with your day-out ticket 🎃👻

We had the loveliest morning at Pye Ash Farm! 🤍🐏 Set in the gorgeous Cheshire countryside, it felt like such a lovely, authentic pumpkin patch experience with plenty to keep the kids entertained 🎃🚜

October has arrived, which means our feeds will be filled with Halloween events, spooky costumes, boo baskets and pumpkin picking days out 🎃🍂

While these can be great fun, the simple little moments in between that make this such a beautiful season often make the best memories 🧡 Running through crunchy leaves, jumping in puddles, collecting conkers, hot chocolates at home, simple Halloween crafts or wearing a pumpkin hat just because you can… 🎃😂

I’ll be sharing plenty of Halloween and autumn days out over the next few weeks, but also walks, outdoor adventures and simple ideas to enjoy the season too 🍁

And remember, you don’t need to do it all! Do what works for your family, and make sure you leave room for those cosy, chilled autumnal days with no plans, too 🫶

🎃🍂 It’s officially cosy season and our first autumnal day out of the year at Bates Farm did NOT disappoint! 🤎☕

Bates Farm have gone big with the pumpkins this year: 👇
