Allow me a few ferocious and frustrated words on the decay of our species due to vulgar technologies. These first waves of AI have been nothing short of obscene — forcefully changing our society and way of life, work, and art to the point of non-recognition. When was the last time you saw a piece of art and didn’t worry if it was AI-generated? When was the last time you could read a simple paragraph and not find annoyance at the hollow output of a machine rather than the fragile writing of a human? I am certain that no person reading this caption is particularly fond of AI in general. Why is that? For money? Since when was money the highest ideal of our collective? As if it was the Lord, they call it profit (prophet), another word for God. Why have we tolerated this for so long? Answer this for yourself, dear viewer. Find solace that we are approaching a new point in history, one where we ask questions and accept nothing as sacred or unable to be changed or challenged.

Create. Not for an algorithm. For us. For you. Enjoy. Not for the algorithm. For your family. For you. Breathe. Not only for the plants. For your body. For you. Being human is to express yourself — do you express your Self anymore? Thus I must ask: When was the last time you were human?

These clips allow an expression that I cannot find in writing of any kind. We must remember who, and what, and why, we are. by @notayushprakash

Shoutout to @popunderwear and my friends for covering my derrière by @notayushprakash

I co-authored an essay with Dr. Karl Friston, the most famously recognized theoretical neuroscientist in history. The argument we make together is that the distance between human intelligence and artificial intelligence is not data centres or training data but the stakes of reality. ChatGPT has no skin in the game for this world — you do.

An AI that hallucinates does not lose sleep nor does an autonomous weapon feel bad for blowing up schools. These systems have no world model, no consequence. Thus, unless a machine can act, get corrected by the world, and carry that consequence into the future (updated by reality), every time we say AI “thinks” or “understands” it is marketing, nothing more.

On my birthday this year, I received something that left me quiet — and laughing. This blog, written by Ayush Prakash, is part tribute, part testimony, and part philosophical exploration of what happens when we are brave enough to meet our minds and ask better questions.

He titled it “What I’ve Learned From Being in a Cult.”
Bold, cheeky, brilliant — and unexpectedly profound.

“She gave me the blueprints for me to build my own, in my own way.” — Ayush Prakash

The so-called cult? Just the two of us. No robes, no rituals — just an ongoing conversation about life and what it means to be human.
(Although, he does want to print t-shirts.)

He even named us Children of Piraeus — a nod to Plato, and to the kind of philosophical friendship that makes unfamiliar terrain feel like home.

Ayush is someone I have had the privilege to work with and witness in his own becoming — a thinker, writer, and question-asker with a razor-sharp intellect and rare humility.
This reflection of his is not about me, not really. It is about what becomes possible when we build spaces for people to think for themselves, not force them to think like us.

You can read the full piece — along with my response — on my website:
Matters More Than Cake - https://www.jamiemeyerenterprises.com/editorial/the-kind-of-mirror-you-dont-expect-a-birthday-tribute-turned-testimony-and-why-it-matters-more-than-cake#/

Or read Ayush’s original essay directly:
What I’ve Learned From Being in a Cult - https://ayushprakash.com/what-ive-learned-from-being-in-a-cult/

I’ll let his words speak for themselves.

Ayush, thank you. It’s an honour to share this epoch with you.
(I will give the cult more consideration)
