To be cringe is to be free

Jadi gak usah peduli mereka bakal nganggep kita apa.

Jadilah aneh, jadilah cringe, jadilah bebas, jadilah diri sendiri. taken in Planet Bekasi by @notcetos

Back then, when I was a kid, I loved playing football. But I didn't really know much about football clubs, especially the ones in Europe. To me, they were just teams in a video game.

One day, while playing on my PS2, I picked Barcelona for one simple reason, I thought their badge looked the coolest.

That's where it all began.

At first, I only enjoyed playing with Barcelona in the game. But over time, I became curious about the players. Among all the stars in the squad, one stood out the most, number 10, Lionel Messi.

Every time I picked up the controller, I always wanted the ball at his feet. It felt different. Dribbling past defenders, creating chances, scoring goals, everything was simply more fun. What started as admiration for a club slowly turned into admiration for one player.

The more I watched Barcelona, the more I fell in love with the way they played. It wasn't just about winning—it was about how they won. Their tiki-taka style, the quick passing, the movement off the ball, the patience, and the intelligence behind every play made football look like art. They never seemed rushed. Instead of forcing attacks, they waited for the right moment, trusted the process, and let the game come to them.

From then on, I began watching Barcelona matches on TV and YouTube. I searched for Messi's highlights, his goals, his dribbles, his assists, and all those magical moments that convinced me he was truly special.

The longer I was a fan, the more criticism I heard. People said Barcelona depended entirely on Messi. They called it "FC Messi." They claimed he'd never win anything with Argentina. I heard it all.

But those words only made me stay. I watched Messi fall, get back up, fail, and keep fighting. From heartbreaking world cup and copa defeats to finally lifting the trophy. From endless criticism to winning the Copa América, the Finalissima, and ultimately the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Being a fan turned out to be about much more than football. It became a lesson in loyalty, supporting someone not only in victory, but also through defeat.

And to think...

It all started because a little kid chose Barcelona on a PS2 simply because the badge is the coolest one. by @notcetos
