“Sometime in late winter I decided to take a photo anytime I felt lonely. Not with my phone, but with a clunky Vivitar film camera my roommate had gifted me last summer. Every time I take a photo, it makes the most pronounced and satisfying noise, like the sound of a thick dictionary dropping onto the ground. It sounds like what I imagine a “.” to be, synonymous to punching your pencil into a piece of paper.

I wasn’t looking for the cause or a solution to my loneliness through this photo series. My goal was not answers or clarity, but rather to encapsulate how I felt into a photo. I did my best to carry the camera around with me anywhere I went, which added a significant amount of weight to my shoulders. But I thought to myself, if I can make something of my emotions - particularly of one that I find to be the most all-consuming and misunderstood - I felt it would make it worth it.“

“I met Madison when we were both 20-years-old studying in Cambridge, thousands of miles away from the school we were both enrolled at but ironically had never met. It was about a year since the pandemic hit, and both of us yearned for an adventure riddled with dark academia, cobblestone cafes, and admittedly, the prospect of English men.

We were at a time of our lives where we felt like we just got started with college, and while I can’t speak for her reasons on why she decided to live abroad for 6 months, I could feel my youth slipping away from me.”
