Chapel Sound and Notebook Platform are proud to co-present ‘Planning Live Performances and Producing Music Using Hardware’ by @miiia_n3zha

This masterclass explores the craft of building and performing live electronic music using hardware. Participants will learn approaches to planning a live set, from arranging and structuring material to designing a hardware setup that supports spontaneity and flow on stage. Covering synthesizers, drum machines, sequencers, and signal routing, the session moves through the practical and creative decisions behind translating studio ideas into compelling live performance. Participants will gain insight into workflow, improvisation, and performance preparation directly from a working artist. Designed for musicians and producers looking to move from recorded production into the dynamics of live hardware-based performance and sound.

MIIIA, also known as N3ZHA, @miiia_n3zha emanates from Shanghai’s vibrant electronic music scene via Vancouver. Her alias is named after Nezha, a protective deity in Chinese folklore, representing Taoism. Over the past decade, she has carved out a niche with her distinctive soundscapes that merge psychedelic elements with themes of futuristic technology and cybernetic explorations.

Known for her dynamic live sets using an array of hardware, she delivers a tactile and taking experience that resonates deeply. Under various aliases, including San Tai Zi, she continues to push musical boundaries, crafting soundscapes that are as innovative as they are emotive.

Join us this Sunday, Oct 4th, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at SFU Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre

hyaline is an interdisciplinary live performance; a new collaboration between artists x/o and gooie.

Drawing from cycles in nature such as slug mating rituals, isopod molting and mycelial networks, hyaline is an exercise in biomimicry, sonic and material experimentation. hyaline explores processes from nature in relation to community formation, vulnerability, care, and self-actualization, to reflect upon queerness existing beyond the human experience.

The work is conceived as part performance art, part live experimental music. Instruments include the performers’ bodies, voice, and a limited set of live sound sources such as laptop, contact mics, mixer, biosonification device, and wireless microphones.

Content Warning: This performance contains heavy strobe lighting, and loud noise. Earplugs will be provided.
