Nobody tells you how much energy it takes to build a life in a new country.

You’re trying to learn the language, understand how everything works, make a home, find your people, keep working, keep going.

Like a baby, you learn everything from scratch.

And some days, you’re just tired. You doubt your choices.

I’m tired too. But I’m here. I’m building this life, slowly, gradually, one brick at a time.

I think I needed to hear that I’m going to be okay.

Today I bought a book by Honoré de Balzac in French.

He was one of my favorite authors when I was 17 or 18. My grandmother used to buy his books for me, but of course they were translations. It was the Soviet era.

She was a French teacher, but she never got to visit France.

And now I’m here, buying his book in French. Sometimes I wonder if my grandmother would have been proud too.

I feel very grateful. And proud.

I am not a simple girl. ✍️

I am a woman with lots of projects and ambitions.

Since I can remember,
I have always been working towards something.

I have always had goals, plans, destinations.

I want to build an empire.
And I am not ashamed of it.

But throughout the years,
I have taken on more than I could handle.

I was impatient.
Too proud.
Too emotionally attached.

I wanted everything.
And I wanted it NOW.

As a result, I had major breakdowns and burnouts.

The kind where you can’t get out of bed for days
and you feel empty, weak and powerless.

Well, maybe it’s age.
Maybe it’s too many failures.

But I learned my lesson.

I am not expecting fast results anymore.

I am playing the long game.

I build every day,
but I build slowly.
Gradually.

I build according to the physical and emotional resources I have that day.

If all I can do is take one tiny baby step,
that’s okay.

Because I am always expanding.
Even if it’s just a tiny little bit.

I am a turtle now.

I protect my resources.

I know I will get to my destination.

And I know I don’t have to destroy myself along the way.

That’s what matters to me.

✍️ Everything we consume today is fast.
Faster ideas, faster success, faster lives.

And slowly, it starts to feel like pressure.

Like if you don’t move fast enough, you’ll fall behind.
Like if you don’t build quickly, you’ll miss your moment.

But building was never meant to feel like panic.

Before placing another brick,
you make sure the previous one holds.

Because speed can build something fast.
