The delight in finding a few ingredients in the fridge that Nigel Slater suggest I throw together, via this book I picked up in Oxfam. The result (tagliatelle, cream, butter, parmesan, nutmeg) was delightful and so simple. 🙏🫶 by @notesofdelight

DAY 30/30 ♡ A MONTH OF DELIGHT
And just like that, we’ve reached Day 30. ♡
For the past month, the invitation has been simply to notice, savour and note what delights you. I purposely left out daily prompts or prescribed things to appreciate to just give participants the space to pay attention to the goodness and gladness already showing up in your life.

Maybe you recorded a NOD every day. Maybe you didn’t. Perhaps you discovered patterns in what delights you. Perhaps you simply became a little more tuned in to the tiny joys you might otherwise have missed?

For me, one of the loveliest surprises has been sharing in your delights too.

A friend said to me recently that sometimes witnessing someone else’s delight is delight enough.

I love that.

Our delights don’t make the difficult things disappear. But noticing our own - and sharing in each other’s - can remind us that alongside everything else, there is still goodness, beauty, connection and wonder here too.

So, as we finish our 30 days, I’d love to know:

How has participating in 30 Days of Delight impacted you?
Has it changed what you notice?
Have you discovered anything about what delights you?
Is there anything from the practice you’ll carry with you?

Please do tell me below, send me a message, or reply by email. I’d genuinely love to hear. ♡

And thank you delight collectors for collecting delight with me.

Keep noticing. Keep noting. Keep savouring. Keep sharing.

The 30 days may be over.
But the delight collection doesn’t have to be. ♡

Day 28/30 - It's been 4 weeks since I began recording my NODs (Notes of Delight) and there have been some big delightful experiences - hosting a dear friend from Canada, showing her round our local town, Romsey, the New Forest and the seaside; actual proper dancing to old skool house music tunes with friends at a local pub, and visiting Winchester Cathedral for the Festival of Flowers and Nature. But it's the tinier slices of joy that I've been noting down - the force of the wind my friend and I fought against on our beachside walk, the smile of a fellow 'raver', and the delight of my visiting friend being in my actual kitchen.

Those are regular reminders of life's daily magic - the delights to be discovered in the every day. It's those that I'm keen to focus on (and remind others to notice too).

Last week's NODs (including today) have included: watching a green woodpecker feast on a fallen apple in our garden, a cloud shaped like a white feather, peering through the golden tunnel field view I've created at the end of the garden by trimming back a small section of gorse, the shine of a conker/apple/pear, the sound of waves, chattering squirrels and the aforementioned woodpecker.

What tiny joys have you tuned into recently?

DAY 15/30 ♡ — DELIGHT INVITATION

We're halfway! (If you started on 1st September, if not you have this to look forward to)...

Today, run a little DELIGHT AUDIT.

Look back through the NODs you've collected so far and get curious:

What keeps appearing?

Nature? People? Places? Comfort? Achievement? Books? Food? Connection? Particular colours, sounds, scents, textures or tastes?

Your delights leave clues. ♡

Now choose 3 or 4 things that appear in your collection and turn them into your own Delight Prompts for the next 15 days.

Mine might be:

SUNLIGHT • GREEN • TEXTURE • SCENTS

I'll still collect whatever spontaneously delights me. But I'll also keep an eye out for these — becoming a bit of a Delight Detective and flexing my noticing muscles.

What patterns are hiding in your Delight Collection?

Tell me your Delight Prompts below ♡

Day 12/30 - Delight can develop later in the day after a difficult start. Or it can sit alongside despair. Yesterday, I experienced both.

On Saturday, after a woodland walk, accompanied by a soft warm breeze, I spent a couple of hours in the kitchen cooking Roast chicken, buttery swede & carrot mash. There was some delight in that, but the main dose came through the radio - first in the goosebumpy nostalgia of Eurythmics Angel and Take That's Patience - remembering dancing to the former and later interviewing Mark over the phone from ilikemusic's Southampton office.

Then, because I'm 52, I switched to Classic FM Chill and a song came on which made me gasp in delight. Stanley Myers - Cavita! 🫶

The guitar strings attached themselves to my heart strings - this was a song my dad used to play on the guitar. I didn't realise until later research, but it's the theme to 1978 De Niro film, The Deer Hunter...

It took me back to my childhood lounge listening to dad play his guitar and I thought about dad and missed him more than I have in years and went to the garden bench for a little cry and a look up to the sky and a why (the despair part).

But then I felt a sense of connection to then and now, to spirit, to hope and to life in general and the beauty of living it. And, before long, the delight of that moment in the kitchen returned and I felt grateful for the gift of remembering. ❤️ by @notesofdelight

Day 11/30 - Even on days where the clouds are heavy and dark, the sun always shines behind them. We sometimes need to look harder to find the light, but glimmers are there, if only we notice.

Found some glimmers after a tough day. 🙏

This woodland light. The soft pages of a good book. Watching exciting TV with my daughter. Climbing into bed. The comfort of a duvet. by @notesofdelight

🌟 Dirt (the scent of earth after rain)
🌟 Doggy cuddles with Meggy
🌟 Dumplings with Chicken casserole for tea

There were also some difficulties, but still enough delight to make them deal-with-able 🙏

Day 8/30 Sometimes the NODs just keep on coming. Delight after delight...

🌟 Waking to the sound of rain while snug under the duvet.
🌟 Sipping tea by the open back door to delight in the rain (home feels even homelier when it's raining).
🌟 Watching 7 Blue Tits flock to the bird table simultaneously to feed on the seed.
🌟Bright shiny red rain-soaked berries in the woods
🌟 The gorgeous late-afternoon light shining through the Willow.

Notice. Note, Savour. Share.
That's the practice.

ONCE YOU'VE BEEN COLLECTING DELIGHT FOR A WEEK - LOOK BACK. ♡

What keeps appearing?

Nature?
Food?
Animals?
Certain people?
Being cosy?
Making things?
Being outside?
Music?
Solitude?
Connection?

Your delights leave clues.

They tell you something about the places, people, experiences and tiny moments that make your particular life feel good.

Notice the pattern.

Then put yourself in the way of more of it. ♡

Day 5: WHAT COUNTS AS A NOD?
Anything that delighted you.

Some days it can be hard to notice or find a delight. Other days you may notice one small thing that delights you and jot it down. Occasionally a day will be bursting with delights. Like today, for me.

There was the delight in feeling the warm September sunshine and the warmth of stone and decking underfoot; the sound of my family’s voices chatting excitedly in the kitchen and the delight in sitting on a step, and realising there are spaces in this garden, like this, where I’ve never sat beforie (new nooks). Looking up brought further delights 1) a tiny spider clinging to a thin line of web, unattached, as it blew threw the air and 2) a thin yellow leaf spiralling down towards me.

Later, during a start-of-September end-of-summer-holidays tradition of visiting the beach with friends, feeling sand underfoot and breathing in the salty air was delightful, but jumping through the cold crashing waves brought a more intense feeling of delight; an invigorating sense of aliveness.

Watching the ‘kids-turned-adults’ play cricket together before some of them head off to uni brought more delight, as did eating fish and chips on the beach as the sun climbed down.

Then, as my daughter and I left the beach we gasped in awe, wonder and pure delight as we spotted an iridescent cloud rainbow in the sky above the sea - a magical way to end a day filled with delight.

But NODs can come in many forms and quantities. The practice is to notice them ans note them.
.
BEAUTIFUL DELIGHTS

WHAT A COLLECTION OF DELIGHT! ♡

So far, we've noticed and noted the delights of home-grown tomatoes, sipping hot tea from a favourite mug, finding a heart-shaped beach rock and feeling the warmth of September sunshine.

We've delighted in nature and wildlife — dragonflies, tiny birds and squirrels in the garden, bear paw prints, sunlit mist, the moon on early-morning walks and epic clouds that look like a sky-sized duvet.

Then there's the comfort of fluffy socks and climbing into bed with linen fresh from the washing line.

We've delighted in other people's delight, too — the mutual win of helping friends with an overwhelming task and witnessing our children's joy in achieving something new. We've delighted in our own little accomplishments: successfully hanging a beautiful new picture ourselves or cooking a new dish.

And we've found delight in the care and support of others when we're not feeling so good; in generosity, encouraging words and thoughtful gifts; and in memories of time spent with people we love, unexpectedly sparked by music on the radio.

And already, little patterns are beginning to emerge.

Nature. Comfort. Food. Connection. Kindness. Accomplishment. Memories. Tiny moments of beauty.

Keep collecting your NODs and you may start to notice your own patterns, too — the people, places, experiences and tiny things that reliably delight you.

I love how varied this collection is: sights, sounds, tastes, textures, feelings and wonderfully ordinary moments that could so easily have passed unnoticed.

Yet by noticing, noting, savouring and sharing them, we get to keep them for a little longer — and perhaps make our days, and somebody else's, a little brighter, cosier and more delightful.

Because that's the added bonus of sharing: someone else's delight might remind you of yours. ♡

Together, here, we're creating something bigger than our own individual NODs: a collective record of delight that can ripple out, connect us and inspire more noticing.

Thanks for delighting along with me. ♡

Keep the collection growing…
