I had one of my best hikes last month at the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve. I did the Indian Loop Trail up to the Olsen Ruins. The weather was cold, but the sun was shining and warm. And, since we had recent rains, there was plenty of water flowing.

🔊 Turn up your volume and enjoy the sounds of nature (and occasionally me breathing heavy 😆).

This is not Photoshop! The "Barber Pole" 💈 is a notable Joshua tree in Joshua Tree National Park @joshuatreenps known for its tall, branchless trunk. It stands nearly 40 feet tall, making it one of the tallest in the park. The lack of branches is unusual, as Joshua trees typically develop branches after blooming. While the exact reason for its lack of branches is unknown, it's a unique and fascinating feature.

Death Valley Junction - March 2021. I stopped off at the legendary Amargosa Opera House & Hotel and grabbed some photos on my way to Death Valley National Park.

History: The Amargosa theater was part of a company town designed by architect Alexander Hamilton McCulloch and constructed in 1923–25 by the Pacific Coast Borax Company. The U-shaped complex of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture style adobe buildings included company offices, employees' headquarters, a dormitory, and a 23-room hotel with a dining room, lobby, and store. At the northeast end of the complex was a recreation hall used as a community center for dances, church services, movies, funerals, and town meetings.
