..Looking back at these first-time adventures I’ve taken by the end of this year:
From driving through Death Valley, skydiving, sailing, living in a farm without signals, to sleeping over the rocks under the moon and stars by the sea. Realizing myself like to constantly fighting for uncomfortableness, fears, struggles, anxieties or embracing them.
Looking forward for more first-times along the journey 🪱🗺 #CovidResidency taken in Death Valley by @notsunnychen

I’m delighted to be part of 「HIGH VISIBILITY』opening this Thursday, July 30 6-8pm at @goca.gallery (Chelsea) curated by @charsocray ❣️
It’s an honor to exhibit alongside so many great artists I admire!!
The show runs July 30–August 22, but I’ll be traveling to Asia this weekend and will be away for the rest of the exhibition, so the opening reception will be my only chance to meet or catchup with friends before I leave. If you’re in New York, I’d love to see you there :D!!!

“HIGH VISIBILITY” brings together artists whose work embraces color at its most vivid and immediate. Through bold form, saturated palettes, and strong compositions, the exhibition explores color as a tool for directing attention, shaping perception, and creating visual presence.

Spanning abstraction and representation, the artists use color in different ways, as structure, material, atmosphere, and subject. Optical effects, pattern, gesture, and form each offer a different approach, but every work shares an immediacy that demands to be looked at.

Rather than focusing on a single style, “HIGH VISIBILITY” highlights artists who use color with intention and conviction. Together, the works demonstrate the many ways chromatic intensity can command attention and transform the experience of looking.”

“Untitled,” 2022:
This work originated from a drawing titled Chambers in My Brain, created in 2019, and later evolved into this sculptural painting during my MFA at Boston University. It imagines the mind as an architectural landscape composed of interconnected chambers—some structured, some organic, and others still taking shape.
By combining geometric planes with biomorphic relief, I explore the tension between structure and intuition, reason and emotion. Painted surfaces suggest systems of navigation, while sculptural forms emerge like living memories or neural growths, blurring the boundaries between landscape, body, and mind.

“Confluence,” 2026:
“Confluence” imagines identity as a landscape shaped by movement, convergence, and transformation. Layers of geometric planes intersect with flowing biomorphic forms, creating a space where the boundaries between body, landscape, and memory dissolve. A luminous center anchors the composition, suggesting an inner source of energy amid continuous change.

Sunny Moxin Chen’s work traces the shifting relationship between internal emotional landscapes and external geographies, shaped by movement, neurodivergent perception, and transnational lived experience. Rooted in the Taoist concept of Dao, Chen’s practice embraces dualities—material and spiritual, abstract and figurative, chaotic and harmonious. Chen integrates Chinese ink, bold pigments, and everyday materials such as tea leaves, flower petals, and fragments of music, allowing these elements to converge into dynamic, layered spaces where memory, sensation, and place intersect. taken in GOCA by Garde by @notsunnychen
