Red Gallery, North Fitzroy. PITCHED exhibition. Last day tomorrow!. Have sold over half my works and received lots of interest. Thank you to all the people who have come along over the last two weeks. I have enjoyed talking to them about the works. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Red Gallery and to the other artists exhibiting for their support. #inkandwatercolour#fitzroysketching#inner northdrawing by @nottarchitecture
A map that can be rolled up and carried. A face that keeps returning in sculpture. A laneway gradually altered by redevelopment. These were some of the images that stayed with me after listening to Bernadette Pilli, Marija Patterson and Terence Nott speak at Red Gallery. What struck me was how their very different ways of working seemed to converge around the same question: as our lives and surroundings change, how do we stay connected to where we have come from, and find our way towards what comes next? Across Bernadette and Marija’s Departures and Terence’s Pitched, place holds both physical and emotional meaning. It carries memory and hope: somewhere we have known, somewhere we long to return to, or somewhere we have yet to find. Our latest Red Journal article, The Places We Carry, is now available to read. A heartfelt thank you to our artists for generously sharing their stories and insights with us. Explore the full story and discover the ideas and conversations behind the exhibitions. Read the full article via the link in our bio. 🔗 Marija Patterson — @marija_patterson Terence Nott — @nottarchitecture Bernadette Pilli — @bernadette_pilli Bernadette’s maps begin with a wish to return to landscapes she has experienced. She paints only places she has visited, grounding each work in a personal encounter. On tough, translucent film, maps, landscapes and figures overlap, disappear and emerge again. Yet a map also raises the question of what happens when we have no route to follow. Bernadette’s reflections on refugees and women leaving violent relationships bring that uncertainty into focus. Departure can be urgent; the future can remain unknown. Left unframed, her works can be rolled up and carried, giving these reflections a tangible form. There is something moving in the resilience of the film: how little we may carry, yet how much it can mean. For Marija, memory lives in the hands. Her mother’s life became the starting point for her exploration of women’s stories. It also gave her a way to approach loss, while viewers found echoes of their own families in the work. Her mother continues to appear in that familiar face, shaped so often that it ha by @nottarchitecture
Two days to go at Red Gallery. I will be at the gallery all Saturday and Sunday until closing at 3pm. It has been a wonderful experience to share space and time with the other artists. #fitzroyhistory #fitzroyheritage #penandwatercolour #edinburghgardens #sketching by @nottarchitecture
A beautiful afternoon, with music drifting through the gallery as people wandered among the works, lingered, and spoke with the artists. Later, the artists shared stories from their lives — experiences, memories and insights that were at once intimate and quietly thought-provoking. Perhaps this is what a place can hold: not only the things within it, but the ways we encounter one another, and the many ways we come to know, feel, and connect with the world. For an afternoon, music, art, stories and conversation simply existed together — a small reminder of how much there is to notice, to share, and to love about being here. A heartfelt thank you to our artists Terence Nott @nottarchitecture , Marija Patterson @marija_patterson and Bernadette Pilli @bernadette_pilli for sharing their stories and insights, and to Anthony Vouliotis @anthony.on.sax and Samantha Levy @ymmatierra , whose beautiful live performance brought such warmth and life to the gallery that afternoon. And thank you to everyone who joined us — for listening, looking, sharing, and simply being part of the afternoon. The exhibitions continue this week. Wednesday – Saturday | 10 am – 5 pm Sunday | 10 am – 3 pm 📍 Red Gallery 157 St Georges Road, Fitzroy North VIC 3068 by @nottarchitecture

With a love of drawing and rural buildings, Terence enrolled and studied Architecture at Melbourne University and graduated in 1970. After living and travelling in Europe in the 70’s he ended up residing in North Fitzroy at a time when the area was just starting to change from a traditional working class suburb with a European influence to a more “so called” liveable and gentrified model. These changes have influenced the subjects of his artwork. Whilst practising architecture he has pursued his drawing and painting, including during his travels in Australia, Europe and Asia. His drawing style has been influenced by his background in architectural illustration and, through his drawings, he has contributed to magazines and books. This is his first solo exhibition. Now on View | Gallery 1: Terence Nott – Pitched @nottarchitecture In his exhibition titled “Pitched”, Terence Nott seeks to record the everyday familiar urban landscapes of his neighbourhood before they vanish …..from the texture of the rear lanes, with their bluestone paving and DIY sheds, fences and gates, to the painted facades, concrete verandahs and wrought iron trims of the 1950’s and 60’s. The process is like discovery and recording in reverse. He has a fascination with the works made by ship artists and botanical artists as they recorded land forms and vegetation before moving on to new discoveries. People turn to these recorded works to compare them against the changes that have occurred. His work expresses the paradox between heritage restoration and the loss of a more familiar cultural urban landscape. His upcoming book, also titled “Pitched”, is a collection of annotated drawings of the changing lanes in Fitzroy and Carlton. All details and artworks are available online via the link in bio. 🔗 ——— Exhibition Dates 30 September – 11 October 2026 Opening Night Friday 2 October | 6 – 8 pm ——— Gallery Hours Wednesday – Sunday | 10 am – 5 pm 📍 Red Gallery 157 St Georges Road Fitzroy North, VIC 3068 Artist Bio Terence “Terry” Nott grew up in Rochester, northern Victoria, where he was encouraged to draw from an early age. Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter memorial sculpture, Gertrude Street, Fitzroy. Setting by Jefa Greenaway, architect. A beautiful pair in a beautiful setting. We stood and admired the work and the spirit of the place for some time. #fitzroy#gertrudestreet#archieroach#rubyhunter by @nottarchitecture
The Loved Ones. It was 60 years ago! Hard to believe! Our first ever proper gig was upstairs at Clements Music in Russell Street, near Bourke Street. Then we did the Thumpin Tum night club in the city. Then other various gigs around Melbourne and one at Balnarring Surf or Yacht club! Then in summer of '65 I was thanked and told I was not wanted. Looking back it was a great time with no regrets. Gerry was a great singer and sadly passed away 20years ago. The practice sessions at Gerry and his wife Claire's house were a learning curve for me. They were a great couple. Ian Clynes keyboard and song writing impressed me. After all these years the music is still catching new listeners. Happy New Year to all and good listening in 2026! #thelovedones#melbournebands#60sbands by @nottarchitecture
