We officially started 8th grade for Kai, 2nd grade for Kennedy, and 1st year teacher for Mama! We all made it through the day, and we are all exhausted! by @notwchick22

This week has been a whirlwind for sure! I am so excited to start my first year as a 5th grade ELAR teacher. I got to meet most of my students Thursday night, it was awesome. Being in library last year I know most of my students already. Our 5th grade team has been so supportive and I am so grateful to have this team to work with this year!!

Tuesday is the 1st day of school! Kai is starting her last year of middle school as an 8th grader, and Kennedy is starting 2nd grade! Here’s to a great school year!!! by @notwchick22

A huge shout out to everyone that has purchased items off my classroom wishlist. I have been overwhelmed with the love and support! The last few days seem surreal. The thought that in a couple weeks I will have a fully functioning classroom full of students is crazy! I wouldn’t have gotten here alone, I am beyond grateful.
I have added a few more books for my classroom library, and some fun activities for my students. Thank you again for building Mrs. Martin’s Classroom!

There was a time when I wasn't sure we'd ever make it to this moment. After walking through some of the hardest seasons of my life, cancer diagnosis, losing D.J., and raising my two beautiful daughters, I refused to give up on making our life better. Last July I started my teaching certification program. I worked 2 jobs 7 days a week, while doing classes and preparing for two state tests. There were long nights of studying after my girls were asleep, moments filled with doubt, tears, and exhaustion, but I kept going. By His grace, I passed not one, but two content certification exams, and this fall I'll be starting my first year as a 5th Grade Reading teacher.

This isn't just a new job. It's a fresh start. It's stability for my girls. It's proof that even after life altering tragedy, new beginnings are possible.
As I prepare my classroom, my heart is full of excitement. I want to create a safe, welcoming place where every student feels seen, encouraged, and inspired to love reading. It’s official my girls are at camp, and Auntie and I have made it home. Camp Kesem is such a great part of our summer! For those of you who may not know Kesem is a summer camp for children who have a parent fighting cancer or that has passed from cancer. This is a week where my girls are with other kids who understand them on a level most just dont get. I am so grateful for this organization that supports and loves on these kids. Karlee talked about how being in the registration room on the way home. Thinking about how all these kids have lost a parent to cancer. I remember my first year dropping Kai off I thought the same thing. A room full of laughter and excitement, but just under the surface this common ground that is so heavy. It’s a lot when you stop and think about it.

Raising grieving children is really hard sometimes. My girls have lost so much over the last few years. It’s not something I will ever feel like I’m doing right, to be honest. The loss of D.J., the loss of both grandpa’s, and honestly the loss of family in response to these losses has been really difficult to navigate. My girls carry a weight with them. They don’t show it to everyone, but it sneaks up on us. As a mom, I can only do so much, I can only explain so much. And over the last few years I have watched them walk through heartbreak, sorrow, and triumphs. They just keep pushing forward. They really are amazing kids. We have a tribe that has shown up for my girls, near and far. I am beyond grateful for our family and friends that have become family, that haven’t forgotten my kids. This life is hard to do on our own, and I am so lucky we have so many walking this life out with us. Kesem is part of that family. And although I will miss them this week, I know they are exactly where they need to be this week!

Went to the park tonight, in a few short hours I will have a 7 year old. Hard to believe my little rainbow baby will be 7 tomorrow…

It hit me tonight tomorrow will make more birthdays without her Dada than with him. I can’t believe our little one who completed our family just didn’t get enough time with him. Time is flying by, He would have loved how her personality has developed. She has this way about her that heals parts of me that are broken, and I am so blessed to be her Mama. She is my Love and I can’t wait to celebrate her this weekend! by @notwchick22

This kid has been killing 1st grade this year! Our school is doing a book run to promote reading at home. If she meets her goal not only does she win a couple cool prizes but she could get 12 new books for home. If anyone would like to help here is her link. Thanks friends!
