Wowwoww thank you so much Karlie from @rewindkingston for the opportunity to showcase unique sculptural artists from all around the Hudson Valley in your window. We are so honored!!!

In the spirit of keeping things out of the landfill, nearly every item used for the zine machine's backdrop sculpture is second hand and repurposed. Some of my favorite elements of the structure are the use of the kinusaiga method to insert the fabric into foamboard, the hand stitching of the patches (of which the letters are cut out from old tee shirts!) and tge 3 dimensional aspect of the velvet letters in "Zine Machine" (handstitched, filled with stuffing, and outlined in tee shirt yarn).

Special thank you to @voiceless.orpheus for being a tremendous helper behind the scenes, spending hours with me hand stiching, learning kinusaiga & helping install the display with care.

COMING SOON- The Zine Machine will be installed inside Rewind Kingston! There will be zines and prints reflecting the artists and their work that's in the window. There will be a release event!

WORKSHOPS- there will be a series of workshops taught by the artists whose work is displayed in the window. More on the sceuduling and content of the workshops soon!

The 3rd musical activation of Woven World by Bulk Mulch Di$count, and the final chance to experience this installation, is at 6 pm this evening. Woven World lives at @galleryraggloucester and was made in collaboration with @chasonsokol and participants over the course of a weeklong residency. It's been an amazing week :) by @nova_darkstar_

How does the future take form?
What is the future made of?
And how do we shape the future?

These are some of the questions at the heart of WOVEN WORLD, our participatory Art+Everywhere residency with Martha Chason-Sokol + Nova Darkstar at Gallery RAG.

As Nova says, maybe what we’re really asking is: How do we learn to think together—for our common benefit?

This week the gallery is becoming a world made collectively: found objects, rope, thread, sculpture, sound, light, words, ideas—and whatever YOU bring to it. Come make, weave, tie, add, respond, talk, listen, play. No special skills needed. The work grows through participation.

Our next selection for Unicorn Bar’s Queer Classics Book Club is Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. Maybe you’ve seen the recent movie adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey or read the book at some point? Not gay. However - Miller’s book draws on Homer’s Iliad, precursor to the Odyssey, and depicts the homoerotic relationship between demigod Achilles and Patroclus as a mythic gaymance! The Boston Globe called Song of Achilles “powerful, inventive, passionate and beautifully written.” Join us on Thursday, October 22nd at 6 PM at the Unicorn Bar as we discuss this book in queer community! by @nova_darkstar_

During our residency at @galleryraggloucester from 9/20-26th, @chasonsokol and I will create the installation Woven World with the help of local residents. Woven World will improvised from local detritus (gathered from the surrounding beach and town) and guided by a spirit of inclusivity, serendipity, interrelatedness, and play. The installation will be open to the public on Saturday, 9/26 from 1-7 PM. We hope to see you there!

Locals are invited to create Woven World along with us on Tuesday and Thursday, 9/22 and 24, from 1-4 PM, and all attendees on Saturday, 9/26 are invited to join in as well.

On Saturday at 1 PM and 6 PM, Bulk Mulch Di$count will activate the installation with site-responsive improvised music. Bulk Mulch Di$count features some combination of Maddy, Nikki, and Jac Harris-Stone and yours truly :)

Our next selection for the Unicorn Bar’s Queer Classics Book Club is Song in a Weary Throat: Memoir of an American Pilgrimage by Pauli Murray, one of the great civil rights autobiographies of the 20th century. Murray (1910-1985) was an activist, feminist, poet, lawyer, and Episcopal priest. An early Freedom Rider, she was friends with Thurgood Marshall and Eleanor Roosevelt and her call for an NAACP for women spurred the founding of NOW (National Organization for Women). Murray was a self-described “she/he personality” who unsuccessfully sought to obtain testosterone from her doctors.
