Sibling trip with Vaness and Gabo to watch Elliott pitch on the road for his @lassen_baseball Cougs at Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls. Got to drop off food from home and from Auntie @k_foodairy and give my boy the biggest hug. Filled up my heart to see him and bring an Auntie and Uncle cheer squad!

Also love seeing new ball fields and had to capture this vintage looking scoreboard with the gorgeous clouds on the lower field next to where he pitched.

And fun to walk into the bleachers to see him charting pitches with his teammates behind home plate. Such a cool experience he’s getting to have. Glad to catch a glimpse! by @novapdx

Wishing our son Kellen the happiest 17th birthday today! From the moment you came into my life, you made it brighter just being busy, curious, fun-loving you. I love watching sports with you, trying out recipes you like, laughing at and with each other, and you are an awesome tailgate partner. I definitely got teary eyed today looking back at all these memories we have shared together. Love you and proud of you, Kellen.

Ouise’s Sensei from her Japanese class at Roosevelt shared info on Japan Fest at Uwajimaya so Auntie Vanny and I took her out there. She got the opportunity to be fitted for a kimono (not to keep) and they had this cute photo booth set up. She got to eat Takoyaki and practice her Japanese skills a bit. by @novapdx

Our Kellen started his junior year of high school. In student government, choir, and plays basketball and baseball, he’s always on the move. He also started up a band @nexus.pdx with his friends and they played their first concert this year. by @novapdx

Ouise told me earlier this summer that she was going to organize a club at school. I thought it was a good goal, but I had no idea just two weeks into high school, she would tell us that she was coming home later today because she would be at her club. I’m so proud of her for putting herself out there and working to make a space for other people who share her interests to come together. Such a unique, fun, and determined being since day one. 💗 by @novapdx

Matt and I named our blended family the Wild Card Home, so that even with all of our different last names, the kids could share a family identity. Today with the @mariners unveiling of the Legacy Plaza Statue, the Wild Card Home is now a permanent fixture at @tmobilepark — thank you to each of our kids for their open hearts that built this home. ❤️ Even more fitting is the net proceeds from our bat purchase will fund Legacy Field projects in WA. I’m so proud to have helped with this permanent installation that will also support ballfields for youth. by @novapdx

While I was away, Auntie Vanny planned an outing with Ouise at @fuzzyspacepdx where she got to design a rug and tuft it herself. I’m so amazed at how she can translate her vision for a piece using any medium. And best, coolest Auntie ever! by @novapdx

Couldn’t have written a better arrival into Susanville as we raced the sunset to see E’s new town as we descended the mountain. It was a quick 48 hours for me before a goodbye breakfast at a local diner and farewell as E walked back to his dorm, waving and looking back to check on me. Whew! The tears just keep coming intermittently. But I’m heartened that my boy is nestled in the sleeping dinosaurs (that’s what my mom called the mountains) of the Cascades and Sierras — their presence a sign that Grandma Mary is watching over him. Such a gift to see him stretch his wings. by @novapdx

Seven and a half hours to a new adventure for Elliott at Lassen College. After getting his id, dorm room shopping and feeding the boys, I left E and his roommate to their afternoon activities and headed over to the baseball field to get my first glimpse of it. I’m so excited for E to continue his baseball journey living at the foot of the mountains in Susanville. Just an hour after arriving, he was already hanging with teammates and diving in to the college experience. by @novapdx
