Front intake for the GPU radiator. Roof exhaust for the CPU AIO. It sounds like a clean plan, but there’s a catch. ⚡

A front-mounted GPU radiator can draw in cooler outside air. As that air passes through the radiator, it picks up heat and continues into the case. Meanwhile, a CPU radiator mounted at the roof may be exhausting air that has already warmed up inside the build.

That doesn’t tell us which position wins. It tells us what to measure.

For this Monster PC, we need to check the full radiator and fan assemblies against the case rails, confirm both sets of tubes reach comfortably, and compare temperatures and noise under real workloads. The layout also has to leave sensible airflow around the motherboard and a build we can maintain later.

Reel 4 shows the proposed route and the trade-off behind it. Episode 5 goes deeper into the full cooling plan. The final arrangement will be decided with the actual components in place.

Where would you start: GPU radiator at the front or CPU radiator at the roof?

Two liquid coolers. One enormous case. So are we building one complicated custom water loop? No.

The CPU gets its own sealed AIO. The factory liquid-cooled GPU brings a separate sealed cooling system. Their coolant never mixes, and there is no shared tubing between them. But putting them in the same case creates a challenge that matters just as much: both radiators need space, both sets of tubes need a safe route, and both coolers depend on a sensible path for air.

That is why “the case supports two radiators” is only the beginning of the answer. We still need to check the complete radiator assemblies, nearby components, hose reach, intake and exhaust direction, and whether the finished build remains easy to maintain.

Reel 3 breaks down the idea in 30 seconds. The full Episode 5 takes you through the layout plan. As the actual parts come together, we’ll test the fit instead of trusting a glamorous render. ⚡

Which would you plan first in a dual-radiator build: the radiator positions or the tube routes?

“Supports a 360 mm radiator.” Sounds like the fit is sorted, right? 📏
Then you look at the actual hardware.
The MSI RTX 5090 Lightning Z card measures 260 × 151 × 61 mm. Its radiator measures 394 × 120 × 56 mm. That 394 mm length and 56 mm thickness have to work with the case’s mounting rail, the fans, the tube exits and everything planned around them.
So for this build, we’re checking the full assembly before choosing its position. Does it clear the neighbouring hardware? Can the tubes reach without an uncomfortable bend? What happens to airflow, temperatures and noise once both coolers are installed?
A fan pattern tells us where the screws may go. The complete layout tells us whether the build makes sense.

A massive case can make a complicated build look easy. Then you start placing the actual parts. 👀
This build has two liquid coolers, which means two radiators need mounting space. Their tubes need to reach without awkward bends or tension. A thicker radiator may interfere with a fan rail, and the vertical GPU still needs room between the card and the glass.
That is why we’re planning the layout before the final assembly. We need a clear route for fresh air, a way for warm air to leave, and enough space to install and service everything properly.
The Corsair 9000D gives us possibilities. Now every component has to prove where it fits.
This is Reel 1 from Episode 5 of the Novasplain Customs Monster PC Build. Follow along as we solve the cooling layout, one decision at a time. ⚡

The case is massive. The clearance problems can still be measured in millimetres. 👀⚡

Two liquid coolers, a vertically mounted GPU, multiple fan banks and enough tubing to make you reconsider where everything belongs.

Welcome to Episode 5 of the Novasplain Customs Monster PC Build series: TWO COOLERS. ONE CASE. 🖤💛

Choosing the components was only part of the challenge. Now we have to give them room to work.

Our Corsair 9000D plan brings together a separate CPU AIO and a factory liquid-cooled GPU. Each has its own cooling circuit, radiator and tube route. Both still have to share the case with the motherboard, mounting rails, power cables and everything else.

Here’s what we’re working through in this episode:

💧 TWO COOLERS, TWO JOBS
The CPU and GPU have independent liquid-cooling systems. Their placement still needs to make sense as one complete build.

📏 THE SPACE BEHIND THE SPEC
A radiator’s advertised size does not describe every clearance it needs. Its full dimensions, the fans attached to it and the hardware around it all matter.

🌬️ A PLAN FOR THE AIR
We explore a front-intake GPU radiator and a roof-exhaust CPU radiator. That gives us a starting layout to evaluate, with trade-offs that need real testing.

🌀 FAN COUNT IS ONLY THE BEGINNING
Filters, radiator restriction, fan choice and speed all influence airflow. A row of glowing fans cannot tell us the pressure balance by itself.

🎮 THE VERTICAL GPU QUESTION
It needs to look good with enough room for the side glass, riser, power connections and cooling tubes. That means checking the space from more than one angle.

🔧 THE DRY FIT
Can the tubes reach comfortably? Can the cables bend naturally? Can the panel close without pushing against anything? These are the questions we want answered before final assembly.

That’s the part of an extreme build I find most interesting: making all the individual choices work together.

The animations show our proposed layout. Physical fit, temperatures and noise are still things we have to verify with the actual hardware.

We have a motherboard winner for the Monster PC: MSI GODLIKE. ⚡

We did not pick it because an expensive motherboard magically adds frames. We picked it because the layout works well for the parts we have planned.

Three fast SSDs have three clear jobs: 4 TB for the system, 8 TB for games and 4 TB for media. Our proposed map puts them in GODLIKE’s onboard M2_1, M2_3 and M2_5 positions. Two 2 TB SATA drives handle documents. That leaves us without a storage expansion card to position alongside the vertically mounted RTX 5090 Lightning Z.

We would also leave M2_2 empty. It shares bandwidth with the rear USB4 ports, and we have enough other onboard positions for the drives this build actually needs.

AORUS gave us a sensible value option. The Glacial made a compelling pitch for a white studio PC, especially if its networking features would be used. GODLIKE won *our* comparison because its onboard drive map keeps this already complicated build more manageable.

There is still work ahead. The E-ATX board, vertical GPU, CPU AIO and the GPU’s factory cooler must all pass a real clearance and cable-routing check inside the case. A good plan only becomes a good build when the hardware fits.

Would you have made the same choice, or gone with Glacial or AORUS? I want to hear your reasoning. 👇

Five M.2 slots built into the motherboard. This time, the detail matters. ⚡

Our Monster PC has a specific storage plan: a 4 TB system drive, an 8 TB games drive and a 4 TB media drive, plus two separate 2 TB SATA drives for documents. On the MSI GODLIKE, the three fast SSDs can occupy M2_1, M2_3 and M2_5. We do not need to install an extra M.2 card to make that plan work.

We would leave M2_2 empty because it shares bandwidth with the rear USB4 ports. And with a vertically mounted RTX 5090 Lightning Z, a CPU AIO and the GPU’s own liquid cooler to accommodate, avoiding another add-in card is a practical advantage.

There is a catch we still have to respect: GODLIKE is a large E-ATX board. A clean drive map on paper means little if the actual board, riser, radiator stacks and cables are awkward to assemble or service. Those clearances need a real dry fit.

That is why we are comparing the boards as complete build layouts, not just counting ports and slots. Glacial has a strong studio case. AORUS makes a strong value case. GODLIKE’s onboard storage gives *this* machine a particularly clean starting point.

Which matters more to you in a flagship build: maximum expansion or a simpler layout for the parts you already know you want?

If I were building an all-white studio PC, the Glacial would be hard to ignore. 🤍

It has the look, two 10GbE ports and support for up to seven M.2 drives. If you regularly move huge projects to fast network storage, those network ports could earn their place. If you do not have that kind of setup, the impressive specification may sit unused.

Our Monster PC needs a different kind of balance. We have three fast SSDs planned for the system, games and media, plus two SATA drives for documents. On the Glacial, the third SSD in our proposed layout goes onto Q-DIMM.2. We would also leave the M.2 position that shares bandwidth with USB4 empty and skip the Hyper M.2 card. That keeps the storage plan focused on the hardware we actually intend to install.

None of this makes the Glacial a poor board. It could be brilliant in a white creator workstation with a fast network behind it. For our build, we have to weigh those strengths against the extra module, the GPU layout and how cleanly the whole system comes together.

That is the point of Episode 4: choosing a motherboard for the machine we are building, not choosing the longest feature list.

Would the Glacial’s studio features change your pick, or would you go with GODLIKE or AORUS? Tell me why. 👇

Seven M.2 slots on the Glacial. Sounds like an easy win, right? 👀

The detail is how you reach seven: three positions on the board, two through Q-DIMM.2 and two through a Hyper M.2 card.

Our build needs three fast SSDs. We can place them without using the slot that shares bandwidth with USB4 or adding another card to the GPU layout.

The slot count gets your attention. The drive map helps you make the decision.

Three NVMe SSDs fit our Aorus plan. What happens if we add a fourth? 👀

That extra M.2 position shares resources with the USB4 controller. It’s the kind of detail that gets lost when you compare motherboards by slot count alone.

Our system, games and media already have their own planned drives, so this is a choice about the layout we’ll actually use. Full motherboard comparison in Episode 4.

Would you take the fourth SSD or keep USB4 available?

The Aorus board has a question for the expensive competition: what are we paying extra for? 👀

Our planned layout is three NVMe SSDs for the system, games and media, plus two SATA drives for documents. The RTX 5090 keeps its primary slot. We leave the slot that shares resources with USB4 empty.

That covers the build on paper. Episode 4 looks at whether Glacial or GODLIKE offers enough for *our* setup to justify going further.

Would you take the Aorus value route or spend more on the motherboard?

Before buying a motherboard for this Monster PC, I want five answers:

1️⃣ Can it fit our five-drive plan?
2️⃣ Does the RTX 5090 keep its primary PCIe slot?
3️⃣ Will USB4 remain available?
4️⃣ What does the extra money actually add?
5️⃣ Is our exact CPU supported by the right BIOS?

A long feature list means little if the parts don’t work together the way we need. Episode 4 runs Aorus, Glacial and GODLIKE through the real build plan.

What’s the first thing you check on a motherboard?
