Abortion rights and legal weed use would have passed with a majority in most states. But not in Florida.

Since 2006, Florida has required a 60% vote to approve amendments to its state constitution. Ironically, the 2024 Amendment 4, which would have enshrined protections for abortion access in a state that currently has a 6-week ban, received a Yes vote of 57%+ from the electorate (with 92% reporting)... and failed. This is apparently what democracy looks like in Florida.

Amendment 3 would have made recreational cannabis legal for people over 21. 55%+ of voters (as of 92% of votes counted) wanted the amendment. by @nowthisweed

Effective immediately, the NCAA will start treating cannabis like alcohol. The largest governing body in intercollegiate sports announced on July 25, that it’s removing weed as a banned drug class for college football’s postseason and all Division I championships.

The council will also discontinue any ongoing penalties for athletes who’ve tested positive for cannabinoids.

‘NCAA members continue efforts to modernize support for student-athletes, and removing restrictions on skill instruction in football will provide those student-athletes with increased resources to achieve their greatest on-field potential,’ said Josh Whitman, chair of the council and athletics director at Illinois.

FOD could become qualifying condition for medical cannabis in four states

Regulatory officials are considering giving people diagnosed with female orgasmic disorder, a condition that makes it hard for women to reach orgasm even with enough sexual stimulation, a medicinal cannabis card.

‘Women with FOD have more mental health issues, are on more pharmaceutical medication,’ Suzanne Mulvehill, founder and executive director of the nonprofit Female Orgasm Research Institute, said to Marijuana Moment. ‘They have more anxiety, depression, PTSD, more sexual abuse histories. It’s not just about pleasure, it’s about a human right... It’s a medical condition that deserves medical treatment.’

‘Do you know how many of those people do drugs?’

Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson called congressional lawmakers ‘hypocritical’ for doing drugs while criminalizing them during a campaign event in New Hampshire on January 18.

After the jab at current politicians, Williamson laid out what her policy would be with regard to cannabis if she were to be elected. ‘One of the first things I would do is deschedule marijuana. It is ridiculous. Deschedule it. Not only let everyone out of prison who was there on marijuana-related charges, but also expunge those records. That’s my plan,’ she said.
