Here, functions are never fixed in advance. The space continuously reshapes itself depending on the people, content, and intentions that enter it—generating the most appropriate experience each time. From pop-ups, streaming studios, DJ/live performances, and audiovisual expressions, to conferences, education, and workshops— a wide range of cross-disciplinary activities coexist and evolve in sequence. I I Ξ X is both a free space for action and a platform that connects, amplifies, and transforms people, ideas, and culture into new outcomes. This work is a approximately 10-minute audiovisual performance in which visuals and sound respond to one another in real time. Built around the script and sound by HSP99, alongside visual fragments by filmmakers ATSUSHI and Vanessa, the piece unfolds as a live interplay of image, light, sound, and space operating simultaneously. As a prelude to today’s opening, this moment invites the audience into the beginning of the ceremony. To “witness” — not to erase what has been seen afterward — this is a ritual to reopen that act. — Tracing the etymology of the main theme of SSFF & ASIA 2026, “Cinema Engineering”: “Cinema” — from the Greek kinēma (movement) “Engineering” — from the Latin ingenium (ingenuity, mechanism) When combined, they suggest “the ingenuity to compose movement and construct the mind.” Cinema is a technical ritual—precisely designing light, sound, time, and bodily perception to leave something within the audience. Since the Lumière brothers, cinema has continually been reinvented alongside the most advanced technologies of its time. In 2026, AI has entered that mechanism. This work stands as a prelude ritual— at the threshold of a turning point.
