Congratulations to Melanie for being a Top 20 finalist in this year's Chapter Challenge. Here's a bit about the song!

"In October 2022, my England based collaborator, Alex Kirk, and I, at the time based in Hawaii, were tasked with writing an upbeat indie pop track for a sync brief with a 48 hour deadline. With oceans and time zones between us, we worked off of gut intuition and a trust in our craft so when he sent me the groove, I immediately got in the zone - I coasted down the highway, windows rolled down with instrumental blasting and the voice memo app recording it all. Between the adrenaline rush of that solo drive, the constellations blossoming in the dusk of the indigo sky, and recalling earlier chats I had with my best friend, Shannon, who was preparing for the first Artemis launch with NASA as a flight controller, I had an overflow of inspiration to work with… you could say I let the stars guide me because at the end of that 30 minute ride, “Cosmic” was born! " - Melanie M Scheiber

We had a great time this week welcoming some of our volunteer Chapter Coordinators for a retreat! We kicked off the event with Chrissy Reter giving top-notch performance coaching which many used when they played shows later in the week! Then NSAI's Director of Songwriter Relations, Jill Moody, chatted about building a community in their home states and an in- depth Q&A about the business. They finished the night by playing songs for each other!

Day two was filled with advice and stories about writing in different genres from Michael Jay, a Q and A session with artist writers Logan Jarvis, Mia Iaderosa, and Milo Langmore, a pitch and incredible song feedback from Greg Gallo at Reservoir Media, and inspiration and stories from Marc Beeson! (Thank you for the photos Diana Taub!)

Thank you to all of our great guests and to all of our Coordinators all over the world! by @nsainow

Congratulations to Megan for being a Top 20 finalist in this year's Chapter Challenge. Here's a bit about the song!

"I'm thrilled to see “Tragic” land in the top 20 of the Chapter Challenge. I wrote this song last year with Brad McKinney, Logan Jarvis, and Mariel Gesualdi at a writing retreat hosted by some friends and co-writers. It was the first time the four of us had ever written together, and I really enjoyed how it was a thoughtful collaboration from the discussion about the angle the song would take to the melodies to the unique details about the character in the song. I’m really proud of our work on this one. Many thanks to the College Station chapter for supporting this song and to NSAI for including it in the top 20 this year!" - Megan Kelley
