The deadline for the 23rd Annual Pai National Jewellery Student Competition has been extended to June 12, 2026.

This national competition celebrates emerging jewellery artists and offers:

NSCAD Jewellery is pleased to announce Qing Wang @q9s0verpaty , as the winner of the inaugural Fairmined® Initiative & Student Award. Qing’s two-in-one locket and tea infuser, Facetted Bud was inspired by budding and floral forms, bringing together adornment, nature, and ritual. It stood out for its captivating presence, artistry and finely resolved filigree construction… not to mention the painstaking accomplishment of pouring, drawing, and shaping all that wire.
The course project, led by Associate Professor, Greg Sims @gr3gs1ms , challenged students to create contemporary and meaningful jewellery while working with materials that can be fully traced to their origin, via the Fairmined® assurance system, developed by the Alliance for Responsible Mining.

This initiative gives students valuable experience working with precious metals that support artisanal and small-scale mining organizations, the well-being of their communities, while promoting greater transparency within the industry. With NSCAD University’s Fairmined® license, access to these materials allowed students to consider not only design and craftsmanship, but also the broader environmental and social impact of the materials they choose to work with.

Fairmined® silver for the project was generously donated by John Esposito at Malleable Jewellery, to encourage the use of responsibly sourced precious metals and to help offset student project costs.

Congratulations to Qing and all student participants for their creativity, innovation, and thoughtful approach to this project. @nscaduniversity

The Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) is now accepting submissions for the 2026 Juried Student Exhibition.

Selected works will be exhibited at the SNAG x Detroit Conference and presented virtually, highlighting the diversity and innovation of emerging metalsmiths and jewellery artists.

• Community programs & apprenticeships
