Summer 2027 might feel far away, but if an internship is part of your plans, fall is a great time to start exploring. 💼

That doesn’t mean you need to have your summer figured out or spend October sending out dozens of applications. Starting early can be as simple as researching fields that interest you, saving a few organizations to watch, or giving your resume and LinkedIn a refresh.

And some opportunities are already worth having on your radar. The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) offers summer Academic Internship Programs in Washington, D.C., where undergraduate students can earn academic credit from George Mason University while completing a guaranteed internship. The experience also includes furnished housing, professional development, networking opportunities, guest lectures, and 250+ hours of professional experience.

Even better for NSCS members: those who participate are guaranteed a $1,500 scholarship, with the opportunity to receive additional funding based on need and merit.

Internship timelines vary by industry, so there’s no need to feel behind. A little exploring and preparation now can simply give you more options when you’re ready to take your next step.

We are excited to highlight the NSCS Chapter at Penn State University as the September 2026 NSCS Chapter of the Month! Founded in 1999, the PSU NSCS chapter is re-energized and thriving thanks to Chapter President Sarah Saylor, who successfully led the reactivation process for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Sarah is a third-year Music Education major (flute/double bass) minoring in Jazz Performance, Dance Studies, and Arts Entrepreneurship. An accomplished scholar and musician (Dean’s List, President Walker & Sparks Award recipient, and performer across 13 university ensembles), Sarah is also a Type 1 diabetes advocate on campus and an active hospice volunteer. She brought that same positive energy and initiative to NSCS by identifying an advisor, securing resources, recruiting officers, and completing university registration!

A special thank you to past leaders like Justin Whitmoyer, Spencer Hauck, Mira Yaache, Russell Chuderewicz, and Karin Wiedemann who all played a key role in supporting and creating a foundation for the NSCS chapter at Penn State over the years. We can't wait to see what Sarah and her team achieve this year! 🦁✨ by @nscs

NSCS is proud to partner with NMDP, the National Marrow Donor Program, to help connect our community with opportunities to make a meaningful difference. 💙

We enjoyed getting to know more about NMDP and its lifesaving mission at ScholarCON 2026, where our scholars had the opportunity to learn how blood stem cell donation can give hope to patients with blood cancers and other serious blood disorders.

Now, we’re excited to bring that opportunity to even more NSCS members. Keep an eye out for NMDP events and registry opportunities with NSCS chapters on campuses throughout the year.

Interested in joining the NMDP Registry? Potential donors must be between the ages of 18 and 35 and meet NMDP’s eligibility and health guidelines. Joining the registry begins with a simple cheek swab, and you could one day be identified as a match for a patient in need.

The September 2026 NSCS Officer of the Month, Dan Molowayi, serves as the 20th Chapter President of the NSCS Chapter at the @universityoflouisville since its founding in 2004. Since he started in his role in 2025, he has driven incredible momentum for the chapter, elevating it to Platinum Star Status—a top-10 distinction—for the 2025–26 academic year. Returning as Chapter President for 2026–27 alongside a motivated and dynamic officer board, Dan aims to lead the chapter to Diamond Star Status. An aspiring medical professional, he is deeply passionate about creating inclusive resources that make a positive, lasting impact on students. by @nscs
