POSTS STORIES REELS

It’s the little things that can make a big difference. 💛

Have you ever wondered why counselling rooms have cozy blankets, warm tea, cool water, snacks, comfort animals, or fidget toys?

Because comfort matters!

Coming to counselling can feel vulnerable, overwhelming, or even a little intimidating. Creating a welcoming space with little comforts can help people feel more at ease, grounded, and supported.

Sometimes it’s a warm cup of tea, something to hold, or a cozy blanket that makes all the difference.

Because counselling isn’t just about what we talk about. It’s also about creating a space where you can feel comfortable showing up exactly as you are. 💛

🌿 Connection is often found in the little things.

Sometimes it’s not the grand gestures that make the biggest difference. It’s the small moments when someone takes the time to listen, remembers something important, checks in, or simply lets us know we’re not alone.

Those little moments can leave a lasting impression.

💬 We’d love to hear from you:

Share in the comments. Your experience might remind someone else just how meaningful the little things can be. ❤️

🌿 The Emotional Side of Downsizing - 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀

I’m excited to share this conversation with Heather, Therapeutic Counsellor at Northshore Counselling & Wellness, as we explore decluttering sentimental items.

Downsizing is about so much more than sorting through belongings and finding a new place to call home. It can bring up memories, feelings of loss, uncertainty, and a whole mix of emotions as we navigate change and step into a new chapter.

The important thing to remember? 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲. 💚 Giving ourselves grace, allowing space for our feelings, and approaching the process with compassion can make all the difference.

We’re looking forward to sharing more conversations to help bring awareness to the emotional side of downsizing and remind you that there’s room for both the challenges and the possibilities that come with change.

More to come…

I’m excited to share this short video of myself and Shelley Hird, The Downsizing Specialist, as we talk about one aspect of the emotional side of downsizing. 🌿

Downsizing is about more than just sorting through belongings and finding a new space. It can bring up memories, feelings of loss, and a mix of emotions as we navigate change and move into a new chapter of life.

We’re looking forward to bringing more awareness to the emotional side of downsizing and the importance of giving ourselves grace and compassion throughout the process. 💚

#DownsizingJourney #EmotionalWellbeing #LifeTransitions #LettingGoWithLove #MentalHealthMatters 🌿 by @nscw.ca

Downsizing isn’t just about what we keep or what we let go of. 🏡💛

Heather recently had the opportunity to sit down with Shelley Hird, a downsizing specialist, to talk about something that often gets overlooked: the emotional side of downsizing and moving.

Moving homes can bring up so much more than decisions about furniture and belongings. It can bring grief, memories, uncertainty, excitement, loss, relief, and even a sense of identity shift.

Our belongings often carry stories, meaning, and memories — so letting go can sometimes feel like letting go of a piece of us, our past, our stories.

We had a wonderful conversation about how these emotional experiences can influence the downsizing and moving process, and why creating space for those feelings is just as important as organizing the physical move.

✨ Stay tuned for the full interview as we explore the emotional impacts of downsizing, moving, and letting go.

🧡 Truth & Reconciliation Day | Every Child Matters

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
—a day to remember the children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors, and the generations of families and communities impacted by the residential school system.

We wear orange to honour the children and to affirm a simple but powerful message:

Every Child Matters. 🧡

Orange also represents remembrance, hope, and our commitment to listening, learning, and continuing the work and commitment of reconciliation.

Today, may we make space for truth, hold compassion for those who carry these experiences, and reflect on how we can contribute to a more respectful and inclusive future.

🧡 Every Child Matters.
🧡 We remember.
🧡 We listen.
🧡 We commit to learning and doing better.

Grief and loss can take many different forms, and there is no single way to grieve.

At NorthShore Counselling & Wellness, both Heather and Sean specialize in grief and loss counselling and have additional training in supporting individuals experiencing traumatic loss.

We understand that grief isn’t always about a loss that has already happened. You may be experiencing anticipatory grief, navigating ambiguous loss, or trying to make sense of a recent loss that has changed your world.

Whatever your experience of grief looks like, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Our approach is to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore the many layers of grief — the emotions, changes, relationships, questions, and experiences that can come with loss.

If you’re looking for support with grief or loss, we’re here to help.

To learn more about our grief and loss counselling services, visit www.nscw.ca, where you can read our blog post about these services. You’re also welcome to send us a message too. 🤍

Supporting your nervous system doesn’t have to be complicated. 🤍

Our nervous system responds to what we experience around us — stress, relationships, change, uncertainty, rest, connection, and safety.

Sometimes, supporting it can look like slowing down and creating small moments of regulation throughout your day.

🌿 Take a few slower breaths.
🤍 Spend time with someone who feels safe.
☀️ Step outside and notice your surroundings
(using your 5 senses)
🫶 Give yourself permission to rest.
🌱 Move your body gently.
💭 Notice what you’re feeling without judging it.

These small moments may not change everything immediately — and they don’t need to.

Supporting your nervous system is a practice, not a one-time fix.

Be gentle with yourself. Start small. Repeat often.

What is one small thing that helps your body feel a little more at ease?
