Modern in Motion XIV (2026) — Northwestern State University Theatre & Dance continues its tradition of site-specific performance, transforming the newly opened Alost Hall into a performance space through movement, architecture, and exploration.

Performances are Sept. 22 and 24–27, with evening performances at 6 p.m. and the Sept. 27 performance at 2 p.m.

Choreography by Brett Alan Garfinkel, Nhan Ho, and Kirstin Riehl.

Opening Gala — September 22 at 6 p.m.
Tickets: $50 | Reception to follow
Sponsored by the Natchitoches Historic District Development Commission

September 24–26 at 6 p.m.
September 27 at 2 p.m.
Tickets: $10 | $5 for children, students, and senior citizens

Presented by Northwestern State University Theatre & Dance.

Modern in Motion XIV | September 22 & 24–27, 2026

NSU Dance invites you to experience Modern in Motion XIV at Alost Hall, bringing dance into one of the newest spaces on Northwestern State University’s historic campus.

Through performances inside and around Alost Hall, NSU Dance Company transforms an academic space into a setting for movement, creativity, and community.

Performance Schedule
September 22 | Gala Performance | 6:00 p.m.
September 24–26 | 6:00 p.m.
September 27 | 2:00 p.m.

The September 22 Gala is sponsored by the Natchitoches Historic District Development Commission, with a reception following the performance.

Gala Tickets: $50
All Other Performances: $10 Adults | $5 Children, Students, and Seniors

What a wonderful weekend of dance!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for Modern in Motion XIV and continues to support the NSU Dance Program. We are incredibly grateful for our audiences, families, friends, and community who came out to celebrate the work of our dancers, choreographers, and faculty.

We are proud of our students and thankful for the opportunity to create, collaborate, and share our work with you.

A huge thank you to Leslie Scott and IDFNOLA for welcoming our students and giving them the opportunity to be part of the 2026 festival. It was such an enriching weekend filled with dance, artistry, connection, and inspiration.

It was also wonderful to have our own Professor Andy Killion take part in the festival and to run into some of our alumni along the way.

A special shoutout to Scott Burrell, Director of CAPA, for coming out to support our students and international contemporary dance.

We are grateful for the experiences, connections, and memories made throughout the weekend.

Thank you to Willow High School Dance Department for welcoming Professors Brett Garfinkel and Nhan Ho for a day of dance and recruitment!

It was a pleasure spending time in the studio with your dancers, sharing movement, and introducing them to the opportunities available through the BFA Dance program at Northwestern State University. We loved their energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to jump into class with us.

We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with the next generation of dancers and hope to welcome some familiar faces to NSU in the future.
