This week on Kuchipudi Insights, we explore "The Art of characterisation" — how a dancer brings a character to life on stage.

From understanding a character's personality and emotions to using expressions, gestures, movement and visual presentation, every detail contributes to the story being told.

Because portraying a character is not just about performing the movements, but about bringing their world to life.

Let us know in the comments what you would like to learn about next!

My journey with teaching has been full of joy. I still remember the day I started Natya Tarangini Hyderabad @nthyderabad with just four eager students. Going with the ebbs and flows of teaching, it has brought me to this point 19 years later.

I look forward to presenting my disciples in a series of Kuchipudi presentations on 2nd October 2026 at CCRT Hyderabad. Please join us at 5:30 pm in our celebrations. by @nthyderabad

This Thursday, we look a little closer at “Abhinaya - the art of communicating meaning and emotion through dance.”

From movement and gesture to expression, costume and the inner emotional state of the dancer, abhinaya is what allows a story to be experienced rather than simply seen.

Swipe through to explore the different facets of this beautiful language of dance.

Introducing Kuchipudi Insights, our new weekly series exploring the many aspects of Kuchipudi and the details that make this art form so fascinating.

For our first insight, we look at three fundamental aspects of a classical dance performance — Nritta, Nritya and Natya — and how movement, expression and storytelling come together on stage.

Swipe through to take a closer look.

वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय
सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ ।
निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव
शुभकार्येषु सर्वदा ॥

Every performance begins with an invocation to Lord Ganesha, seeking his blessings as the dancer takes their first steps onto the stage

May his blessings guide every step we take, on stage and beyond, and bring grace to every new beginning.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi ✨
