We’re so pleased to see that the wildfire at Headon Warren is now under control, as firefighters continue to make good progress tackling remaining hotspots and smouldering areas.

Our heartfelt thanks go to @hantsiowfireservice , the helicopter crew carrying out seawater drops, and all firefighters and support teams who have worked tirelessly throughout this complex and prolonged incident.

We’re also deeply grateful to our tenants @warrenfarmiow , neighbouring farmers, local landowners, community organisations, partner agencies and the many individuals who have stepped forward to help. The response has been a truly coordinated effort, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone involved.

While the full impact is still being assessed, we know that a significant area of precious heathland has been damaged, affecting habitats for nesting birds, invertebrates and other wildlife. Recovery will take time, and we’ll be working to better understand the impact and support the restoration of this special landscape.

With conditions remaining exceptionally dry, we continue to urge people to help protect the countryside by not lighting fires or barbecues, discarding cigarettes, or leaving litter behind. Small actions can make a big difference in preventing fires and protecting wildlife, habitats and landscapes.

Thank you again to everyone who has helped, supported and shown concern over the past few days. by @ntisleofwight

The Kitchen Garden at Mottistone is absolutely bursting into life right now!

Next time you visit, see what you can spot…

🥬 Cardoon – It might look like a giant silver artichoke, but it’s actually grown for its stalks! Peel them, boil until tender, then enjoy roasted, baked in a gratin or simply with butter and lemon.

🌸 Dahlias – They’re not just there to look beautiful (although they certainly do!). Traditionally, kitchen gardens included cut flowers to brighten the house, attract pollinators and beneficial insects, and help create a thriving garden full of life.

🍅 Tomatoes – Can you guess how many different varieties are growing this year? Let us know in the comments before you visit! 👀

🌿 Curry plant – Give it a gentle rub and you’ll instantly recognise the warm, spicy aroma… despite the name, it’s not usually used to make curry!

🫘 Brighstone Beans – A true Isle of Wight treasure. Legend has it their seeds washed ashore from a shipwreck in Brighstone Bay in the 1800s. Local gardeners kept them growing for generations before they were rescued from extinction by Garden Organic.

🥒 Courgettes – Growing at summer speed!

🥬 Lettuces – Crisp, colourful and, fun fact, they’re actually part of the daisy family.

If you’re lucky, you might even be able to take a little taste of Mottistone home. Seasonal produce from the kitchen garden is sometimes available for a donation at Visitor Reception so pop in and see what’s on offer. Every donation helps support the care of this special place.

What’s your favourite thing to grow or eat from a kitchen garden? 🌱💚

National Trust - Bembridge windmill 🌳

☀️Rain or shine, the community umbrella will be there waiting for you!

We had a knockout morning at the stunningly beautiful and cool Bembridge Windmill 🦋
The National Trust's Shaun the Sheep shearer was kind enough to teach us about the National Trust's herd of Hebridean sheep and how they manage NT land

He then talked us through how he shears the sheep and even gave us some fleeces 😍

Thankyou Community Champions, @ntisleofwight for another wonderful day 🐞

Nothing says heatwave quite like a Christmas post in July…

Strange as it feels, now’s exactly the time to book your Christmas & New Year cottage stay on the island. Trust us, future you, wrapped up on a crisp coastal walk, log fire waiting back at the cottage, will be very grateful.

There’s nothing quite like waking up to island views on Christmas morning.
