✰ these are the lyrics to all 14 songs on my first ever album “UNIVERSITY, USA” which has been out everywhere for the last two months. LISTEN LINK IN BIO OFC❤️💛 (crazy i graduated two months ago i gotta lock in.

✰ I printed these lil posters out so they could be on display when i hosted my grad party/ concert / somali talent showcase / yada yada last Friday at the amazing @soomaalhouse . that place is where i got the inspiration to take my lyrics a little bit more serious to where they can be taken serious even without a beat or even without my voice. i wanted my lyrics to be a little bit like the poets that i met there, even if I’m not too close yet. it was a beautiful full circle moment to have these up little like my dark stupid beautiful art pieces a little year after. last friday is definitely one of the best days of my life, it’s the product of like a hundred things actually coming to fruition, but there will be more days like that I know!

✰ my goal was for every lyric to be something i could stand behind and treat every second of that album like prime real estate. no filler, no rap cap, no waste. i wanted to convey every feeling and concept i wrote in my notes a year ago into an album (i wanted it to only be 30, but it’s 39 minutes.)

✰ i feel like ive told you this so many times before, but this album means the world to me. i recorded all these songs in my university libraries and though i didn’t write down any of the lyrics, they were a great mix of being thought out but also just exactly how i felt in that moment. like all great art, i want this to be a time capsule for my own life one day, but it’s already getting nostalgic for me as is. this was such a challenging album for me, mainly because the turbulence going on in my life but also because I had a very specific and rigid idea of it and one that wasn’t really the most natural for me. I wanted to tell a story kind of. hopefully it worked. each of these songs is so successful to me in that way.

✰ its a bit cliche but it feels like every movie / narrative journey has to have a love interest or a romance arc. as a kid i thought that was so corny, but i get it now. the irony of UNIVERSITY, USA being my first ever story is that everything is very much imperfect and in progress. my time in college, there was no true love interest like the movies suggested. the song is actually funny because it is about this concept of being a bit lonely, bit chopped and maybe wanting love for myself, but not before i find my dreams for myself. all roads lead to me. i am the one who decides my story.

✰ but at the same time, i have a homegirl and the joke from other people is that "all roads" lead back to that. hearing this sample put that battery in my back. having a platonic push from someone that isnt just "the boys" does wonders. shoutout to her, nobody has supported this persona that is "nu nova" more than her. that's my twin, think that you knowwwwwww. so much love.

✰ this video is fucking crazy shoutout to @sid.gelp and @joe.krattley this is probably the best and most professional video i ever have done and its so beautiful that it was a very fun process and with two people i consider good friends. go show them love, they went crazy. ✰ when i had first thought about making this song, i just envisioned someone lying in their bed with a bunch of posters around them and just sulking. growing up in my typa households, i never really had the courage to fully customize and decorate my room the way my heart desired.. it was a bit of a strange thing to ask people if i could lay in their bed for a music video and put my stank ass feet all over they sheets as well as use their posters and print my own out too, but big shoutout to @vembswordss for assisting as well as shooting the vid!!!

✰ i try to keep myself busy and occupied this summer to a fault but most summers of my life end up just rotting away in my hot ass room so i truly did feel every lyric on this song. i think a lot of people can too, it’s definitely one of my favs i ever made. my favorite people’s favorite nu nova songs for sure. i have a bad penchant of writing overly long captions, someone told me i should just let the art speak for itself so here goes that..

✰ “NU NOVA’s GRAD PARTY”
July 10th, 2026

In celebration of my first ever album University, USA (LINK IN BIO GO STREAM DAT), me graduating university, BEING SOMALI IN JULY, and every act being Somali or a dear friend of mine… BEST DAY EVER.

✰ This album represented every feeling and aspect of who I was the last four years. Every song was either made in my brother’s room or in the lonely library rooms at my university. Being able to share those songs and fully express myself live with all the amazing people who’ve seen me throughout that time is priceless. It was a turbulent period of my life, but it’s summer now. We deserve to party. I also deserve to make my friends uncomfortable with heavy Auto-Tune singing and by stepping on balloons lmao.

✰ I intended this project to feel like a coming of age story. Now that I’ve graduated, I definitely feel like I’m in a transition period of my life. Seeing my old shirts on the wall, the lyrics on the wall, the pink tape everywhere… it all felt that much more personal.

✰ It means so much to see so many of my favorite people together in one beautiful space with my favorite music playing all night. I was kind of raised thinking this sort of thing wasn’t possible and that if I pursued it (the validation of outsiders) I would become an outsider to my own community. That’s why it’s so cool to be able to do this while still being supported by my childhood friends. Hopefully this inspires fellow Somalis too, whether through me or through the other acts.

✰ I wish my real grad party could’ve been like this, but I’ve accepted that I live a bit of a double life through this mask, as I don’t know how safe I’d feel without it. All I ever want to do is create a safe space through my music and my shows, and I honestly hope I did.

✰ It’s super ironic that today is the exact two year anniversary of when I locked myself in my brother’s room while he was on a 16 day vacation and decided to make 100 songs. Ever since that day I’ve been trying to make this more than just a stupid hobby. This day felt like the ultimate realization of that. Putting in the work always works!!!
