This photo really embodies the spirit and intention behind the NuBoard.

It was during the pandemic that Storm was composing for metal pipes and got fed up with having to constantly replace the flattened, slappy weather stripping. Not to mention the time needed to rearrange as the setup became more complex.

What if there was a way to mount the pipes in a secure way that was modular enough to make quick adjustments on the fly?

Fast forward 3 years, @pitavonhammerdorf asked us “do you think a NuBoard could mount this (super heavy) metal spring?”

We put our minds together and started testing the options. We tried a net design, less contact points, and nodal targeting. Nothing compared to the sound of suspending the instrument.

Then the light bulb turned on. We had some random 1/4”-20 threaded rod and various nuts lying around. In the end, we fashioned this suspension system you see before you. Success!

Paulina’s putting it to the test as we speak.

Stay creative.

This is the WideBoard. It securely mounts 11 pipes while maintaining quality tone and resonance. The system uses mounts that easily adjust to the hang-point of each pipe. The mounts are fitted with a spinner-knob for easy tightening and loosening. Once loosened, the mounts slide freely along the slot with a well fitted recessed t-bolt slot on the bottom-side of the board. Once set up, the NuBoard will sit flat on a trap-table or x-stand alongside the rest of your setup. It can be mounted at slight angles when secured in a snare stand. #nuboard #nupercussion #classicalpercussion #percussion #percussionist #drum #drums #contemporary #ineedhelpmountingmymetalpipes #music #foundobjects #multipercussion #percussionensemble #experimentalmusic #windchimes #chimes #bells by @nu_percussion

NuBoard artist feature! Here’s Bonnie Whiting (@percussion_galadriel) using her wideboard in the setup for the percussion concerto “The shape of the wind, the shadow of time” by Huck Hodge.

NuBoard Sound Samples: Copper Pipe Edition
——————————————————————————
Backer rod fits nicely in the slots and provides a brilliant, resonant sound. Great for settings that requires a washy texture.
——————————————————————————
Strapless and strapped NuMount gives the player an easy, reusable (and secure) setup that provides a round tone, full resonance, and a slightly quicker decay. Great for clearing up the wash in settings that requires more clarity.

A little “how-to” to show you all the finer details of mounting pipes to a NuBoard.

————————————————————————

The WideBoard has 11 slots that fit up to 18" long metal pipes that have a maximum outer diameter of 2". Glockenspiel bars, and many other instruments can be mounted as well.

Leave the weather stripping at the hardware store!
(thanks for that one, @delane_doyle)
——————————————————
The NuBoard was designed to be a one-time setup for mounting metal pipes. It’s modularity allows it to fit all standard pipe lengths and diameters.

We’ll show you soon that it resonates just as long as backer rod and fishing-line assemblies.

No need to fuss with your pipes each time you set up. This system is very secure and stores easily.

A look at how we create the mount for our NuBoard. It features a u-shaped bed to allow the instruments to bounce freely; side hooks for our fabric bands, or any other suspension materials like fishing line; and a spinner and t-bolt combo to easily adjust the mounts position to the nodal point of your instrument.

Presenting: “NuBoard Stacked” (thanks @arneygar for the name). We took a WideBoard and loaded it up with as many small idiophones that we could muster.

What you’re looking at:
3 copper pipes
4 glockenspiel bars
1 triangle
1 flowerpot
1 crotale
and a D# deskbell (unmounted) for good measure.
