Leiden Dump No.1 🧡

It’s been 2 months since I left Leiden, but I still miss the city so much. 😭
So these next few posts will be my fav views with recommended locations if you happen to visit this beautiful city. Starting here with places along the main canals! 🩵

- Academiegebouw (Academy building): the oldest building of the oldest uni in NL (a tour inside is also available in the summer — recommended for nerdy LU students!)

- Rapenburg canal: was once noted as the most beautiful canal in Europe, and it is very pretty especially with the fall colours 🍁

- Stadhuis van Leiden (Leiden City Hall): beautiful building that you won’t miss if you stroll through the city center. And you will definitely detect the “Leiden keys” everywhere in the city! 🗝️

- Koornbrug & Nieuwe Rijn: the heart of the city where there is a market every Wed & Sat. Lots of cafes and shops along the Nieuwe Rijn too.

- Oude Rijn & Nieuwe Rijn: I find the spot where these two canals meet and join into De Rijn one of the most beautiful (& busiest) spots. I love the sight of the canals in every direction, and some outstanding buildings like De Waag and Hartebrugkerk. Annie’s is also an always-busy place which makes the area so lively.

- Hortus Botanicus Leiden: the oldest botanical garden in NL, and one of my forever fav places (as a garden lover). Been there over 20 times and with the changing seasons, it never feels the same. 🌸

Leiden Dump No.2 🗝️❤️

Continuing with my favourite spots in this city of keys!

- The view of De Rijn from Bostelbrug (the main bridge to the city center) is definitely one of the most photographed spots by me. I just can’t resist taking a snap every time I walk across the bridge, regardless of the season, weather, and time.

- Burcht van Leiden: the oldest remaining structure in Leiden which offers you a beautiful view of the city. I especially loved it when the city planted red tulips in the shape of Leiden keys in front of De Burcht.

The three main churches in Leiden

- Hooglandse kerk: the largest church in Leiden, with its best view seen from De Burcht.

- Pieterskerk: another huge church in the middle of the city that doesn’t serve as a church anymore, but is used to hold events ranging from concerts to graduation ceremonies. I also personally find the alleys surrounding Pieterskerk the most beautiful in the city.

- Marekerk: also visible from various locations in the city. I found the best view of it from the top of Molen de Valk (the city’s main windmill)!

Leiden Dump No. 3 ✨

Wrapping up my Leiden photo series with some of the most photogenic spots in town! I still have tons more pics and will post them now and then, especially when I miss my second home. 🥹

- Molen De Put: A lesser-known but (in my opinion) prettier windmill.

- Rembrandtplaats: My top hidden gem with cozy views of Molen De Put, Rembrandtbrug, and the Rijn. Peaceful vibes, classic houses, flowers, and a statue of young Rembrandt.

- Molen De Valk: Leiden’s iconic windmill. Climb up (free with museum card) for amazing views. Loved the Dutch flag wrapped around it on King’s Day.

- Morspoort: One of only two remaining city gates, once used as a prison.

- Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC): My home base! The building reminds me of NS trains, and the field out front changes with the seasons.

- Kamerlingh Onnes Gebouw (KOG): Historic science university building, that is now owned by the Faculty of Law. The library is full during exams, but still dead silent!

- Leiden University Library: Always busy, yet there’s always a place to study. One of my favorite study spots!

- Leiden Centraal: First stop in town. Big enough to be “Centraal,” small enough not to get lost. I love its modern design. 🚉

Last photo: a tribute to the “To Breathe” art installation over Oude Vest. Look how its shadow formed a perfect circle on the water! Sadly, it was taken down in Feb 2025.

Bruges 🇧🇪 | June 2026

Stayed overnight in an attic room that gave a view across the orange rooftops of Bruges. Had the chance to capture the charming differences over daylight, evening and night. 🌆🌃🧡

Ghent 🇧🇪 | June 2026

My second time here, after my very gloomy visit in December 2024 with rain and hail.

My second try didn’t disappoint me at all! A bit cloudy at first, followed by a clear blue sky, streets that weren’t too busy, and the medieval charm still lingering around every corner. ☀️🩶

Apart from Gravensteen Castle from my previous post, I just love the city centre, strolling from Grasbrug along Graslei and Korenlei, all the way to St. Michael’s Bridge, with the stunning views of St. Michael’s Church on one side and St. Nicholas’ Church on the other.

This was also the first time I walked up to Vrijdagmarkt Square, where the statue of Jacob van Artevelde stands. I also strolled around the neighbourhood of Patershol and Kraanlei, where I accidentally came across a Thai restaurant called “Nua”! 😁 by @nuaniaaroundtheworld

Ghent 🇧🇪 | June 2026

My second time in my second-favourite Belgian city. 🩶
This time, I got the chance to enter and stroll around the city’s main landmark: Gravensteen Castle. 🏰

The grey stone walls give this medieval castle a sturdy, protective, and somehow haunting vibe… one that seems to run through the city as well.

The views of the old city from the castle are also absolutely stunning! Super bonus points for me, as I love city views from high places. 🥰

Had a brief stop in this little city of Kortrijk while changing trains on the route from Rotterdam to Lille. Was pretty peaceful on a Saturday morning!

Lille 🇫🇷 | June 2026

Some less mainstream shots, but showing other hidden parts of the city’s soul ✨

From summer flowers and sunset-lit streets, to the amazing Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille, lush greenery at the Citadelle de Lille, and delicious food ranging from PAUL bakery (which opened its very first branch in Lille!) to a random spot serving perfect French cuisine.
