The Rio lounge chair, designed in 1978 by Oscar Niemeyer in collaboration with his daughter Anna Maria Niemeyer, is a piece of modern furniture made with a curved wooden frame and a suspended leather seat and headrest. The structure allows the leather to support the body, creating a comfortable seating position. The chair’s shape is based on Niemeyer’s use of curved lines, which he also applied in his architectural work. by @nuerosea

The J. Mayes Residence in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, was designed in 1954 by architect Don Erickson for its original owner, J. Mayes, after whom the house was named. Like many modernist homes of the period, the residence was named after the first client who commissioned the design.

The house reflects mid-century modern ideas, with a circular floor plan, low horizontal rooflines, and large windows that connect the interior with the surrounding landscape. Erickson had earlier been a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, and the influence of Wright’s architectural philosophy can be seen in the home’s emphasis on organic architecture and harmony with nature. Although the residence was an innovative example of modern architecture at the time, it was later demolished and is now mainly known through photographs and architectural records. by @nuerosea

The conceptual Dubai Art Museum, designed by Kalbod Design Studio, features a calm and striking interior centered around a large sculptural structure made of rammed earth.

The space is surrounded by a soft, semi-transparent outer layer that lets natural light enter the building, creating gentle shadows throughout the galleries. Visitors enter through this outer shell and are taken to the top floor, where they begin their journey through the museum by slowly walking down a central ramp that connects the exhibition spaces. This design encourages people to move smoothly through the building while experiencing both the artwork and the architecture together, making the museum itself an important part of the artistic experience. by @nuerosea

The OBJ-05 Copper Lounge Chair, designed by Manu Bañó for Galerie Philia, explores the expressive qualities of copper through traditional craftsmanship. The piece was produced in Santa Clara del Cobre, a town known for its long-standing metalworking tradition. Local artisans shaped the chair by hand, gradually strengthening and forming the copper through a rhythmic hammering process.

Bañó’s OBJ collection is based on simple gestures applied to raw materials in their standard formats. Through minimal interventions such as cutting and folding, flat sheets are transformed into functional objects while keeping the construction and material clearly visible. His design process is intuitive, often beginning with quick sketches that later evolve into physical pieces.

Although the series prioritizes sculptural beauty, the objects ultimately find their place in everyday interiors. Balancing art and function, the OBJ pieces demonstrate how minimal manipulation of a material can produce objects that are both expressive and practical. by @nuerosea

Calla Lily (1988) by Robert Mapplethorpe

Robert Mapplethorpe’s Calla Lily is part of a series of flower photographs he produced throughout his career. Like his portraits, these images show his interest in physical beauty and his technical skill in capturing it. As Mapplethorpe isolates the lily, he uses lighting and tight cropping to highlight the contrast between its strength and its fleeting nature. He once stated in an interview, “I don’t love flowers and I don’t like having them,” explaining that he did not want the responsibility of caring for something that would inevitably die.

Although Mapplethorpe’s flower photographs are less widely recognized than some of his more provocative works, they are frequently interpreted as having erotic undertones - the shape of the calla lily itself can evoke both masculine and feminine sexuality. by @nuerosea
