Hon. Dickon Mitchell, May 2024.Some portraits go beyond the frame, they carry the weight of a moment, the presence of a soul, and the quiet power of leadership.Last year, I had the profound honor of photographing the Prime Minister of Grenada, Hon. Dickon Mitchell @dickonmitchellofficial a man whose humility, attentiveness, and steady strength left a lasting impression on me, far beyond what the lens could ever capture. Six days with a leader who sees you and connects with you, regardless of titles.One moment that remains etched in my memory was during our visit to Elmina Castle. I had unknowingly left my camera lens tucked inside a flower vase, and just before we departed, he quietly pointed it out to me. It may seem small, but in that simple act, I saw a leader who notices the overlooked, not just roles, but people.I couldn’t resist asking if I could set up and create his portrait, something that wasn’t on the itinerary. To my surprise, he carved out two hours the next morning, ahead of his already packed schedule, meaning he had to rise earlier and prepare. That same attentiveness showed again when he looked at the final portraits and said, ‘No one has captured me in this way.’As a photographer, those words were a gift. But even more, they reminded me why I do what I do, to honor stories, preserve legacies, and reflect the essence of people beyond their positions.This body of work is more than a portfolio, it’s a tribute to the kind of leadership the world needs more of. I remain deeply grateful for the trust placed in me to document it. May the work continue.
