🚨🚨🚨NEW RELEASE🚨🚨🚨

🔹🔺🔸Introducing Rotina 🔸🔺🔹By @nuformtype and the Sharp Type team

Rotina is a sturdy modernist sans with a playful secret. Built on the foundation of a clean utilitarian neo-grotesque, Rotina is a Swiss army knife of tools that brings workhorse fundamentals, robust utility, and a heavy dose of aura to your daily design routine.

The first collaboration between Sharp Type and NuForm, Rotina was conceived by Erik Marinovich from two worlds: the meticulous order of type design and the freehand intuition of lettering. It began with dead stock Letraset sheets, cut apart, rearranged, and redrawn, where the joy of manipulating form first took root.

That same curiosity lives on in a typeface engineered for contemporary use yet grounded in analog discovery. Rotina feels both grown up and impulsive, a structured experiment that never forgot how to improvise.

With Standard, Swash, and Script families (each in both Standard and Tight versions), Rotina balances precision and play, structure and expression. Every letter carries a quiet tension, part modernist engineering, part human gesture. 🖋️🌀🖊️

Rotina is functional yet full of character, the dependable sans you reach for instinctively, but one that rewards playfulness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Ummm…Excuse me, but your flourishes are showing!

Work in progress for our next release. It doesn’t have a name yet (suggestions are welcome in the comments) and will come with flair.

It’s now NuForm tradition and good luck (I’m superstitious) to announce next releases by setting it with New York City first. Because, if it doesn’t look good set in those three words it’s not worth making or so I think. by @nuformtype

💚🟨🖤The NYC Bodega🖤🟨💚 An ode to the best corner stores in the 🌎… where lunch dreams come true. I pulled inspiration from the visual wonderland these facades emit for a piece featured on the OZIK Soft website. Looking at all these sandwich pics got me 🤤. Lunch time ✌️.

Clean and composed one minute, full of personality the next. 👀

Created by @nuformtype and @sharp_type, Rotina starts with a crisp neo-grotesque foundation before loosening up with swash and script companion styles. Precision meets playfulness in a type system that can move from sharp editorial layouts to expressive branding and digital design, without losing any of its character.

That versatility earned Rotina a shortlist spot in Type Design & Lettering at D&AD Awards 2026. ✏️

And speaking of New York: we’re coming.

Join us in November for the D&AD Creative Leaders’ NY Residency, bringing together senior creative leaders for a new intensive programme focused on creativity, leadership and influence. Link in bio for full details.

A career is really just a collection of small moments.

A teacher who notices something in you.

A friend who pushes you to try something new.

A terrible boss who accidentally sends you in a better direction.

A personal project that no one asked for.

Looking back, those moments seem inevitable. Living through them, they almost never do.

This week I sat down with @erikmarinovich of @nuformtype for Episode 004 of The Infinite Errand.

Long before Erik became known for his lettering and type design, he was simply a kid drawing comic books until he lost track of time. That pursuit eventually led him through New York agencies, influential mentors, Friends of Type, years of freelance work, creative burnout, and now a business built around designing typefaces that will hopefully outlive him.

What I appreciated most about this conversation is that Erik doesn’t romanticize any of it. He talks openly about working impossible hours, questioning his direction, having a complete mental breakdown during the pandemic, and slowly redefining what success looks like as his life changed.

It’s also a reminder that some of the most important work you’ll ever make isn’t commissioned. It begins as an experiment. A curiosity. A way of processing whatever you’re living through at the time.

Those projects have a strange way of becoming the ones that change everything.

I hope you’ll give Episode 004 a listen. And if something in the conversation sticks with you, I’d genuinely love to hear about it.

If YouTube is more your speed, you can watch the full conversation there as well.

The swag maxed Swash family brings Rotina’s signature style to the forefront, capturing Erik Marinovich’s initial proof of concept sketches into a system that gives designers the ability to simply type out breathtaking lettering compositions and watch the magic happen. 🌀🌀

The typeface comes with swash capitals as default, with more detailed and intricate forms in the upper and lowercase accessible through OpenType features.

Like the rest of the family, Rotina Swash is plug and play, but the best results come from tinkering with compositions and choosing forms situationally. 🧩

Who doesn’t love setting type tight? We love it so much we decided to do the hard work for you.

Each style in Rotina is a two-for-one, including both a standard spacing and a fully tracked in tight variation for ultra crisp, mouth watering, tight-but-not-touching lockups.🫸🏼🫷🏼These otherwise identical Standard and Tight spacing versions allowed us to include a full tracking axis on all 3 variable fonts.

With their respective backgrounds as a freehand lettering maestro and a graffiti artist, Erik Marinovich and Lucas Sharp shaped Rotina Script through a collaborative back-and-forth, honing a style that felt natural alongside the more conservative Roman without making a fool of itself.

Complete with its own special extra scripty set of swash capitals, Rotina Script balances spontaneity and structure in equal measure. For when a standard italic just won’t cut it, Rotina Script brings a lugubrious informality that oozes with swag. ⚖️⚖️

Every letter in Rotina carries a quiet tension: part modernist engineering, part human gesture. 🔧🤝

This duality is Rotina’s greatest asset and its conceptual engine. It’s a type system that can shift from a swiss poster to a handwritten note without losing its composure, designed for both clarity and charm. What begins as a study in restraint becomes a lesson in freedom - a workhorse with a wink. 🐎

The Rotina family balances precision and play across every style. 🔨🛞

Rotina Standard brings a fresh set of eyes to the most everyday style of type, laying down a solid foundation of workhorse utility that serves as fertile soil for the expressive exploration of its wide palette of styles.

Rotina Swash captures the spontaneity of Marinovich’s earliest sketches and systematizes it into a poster layout machine. 🗞️

Rotina Script brings a graffiti handstyle energy that brings an extra level of emphasis and contrast to the roman–a step beyond the standard italic. by @nuformtype
