We purchased our regional block for just over $400k, and while everyone sees 3,300 square metres…

We see room for fruit trees, veggie gardens, future kids running barefoot, evenings spent around the fire, space to breathe, and the opportunity to owner-build a home that’s truly ours.

Yeeeowww 🤠 the foundations for our build are officially underway & these silly buggers couldn’t be more stoked.

A few holes, a lotta concrete & 847 trips to the hardware store later… we’re finally putting some steel in the ground 🫡

Landscaping ie adult fairy gardens of my absolute DREAMS!!! 🧚🏼‍♀️🪄🪷🪾🔮🌾

As a kid, I could spend hours outside making the perfect little homes for my fairy friends. I’d collect flowers, leaves, rocks and moss and carefully create their tiny little worlds. 🥹

So naturally, years later, I’m now saving every beautiful garden I see for our future home and dreaming about the kind of backyard we’ll create on our block 🌳

I’m obsessed with gardens that feel wild, whimsical and completely at home in their surroundings - filled with beautiful WA natives, grasses & wildflowers (aren’t we lucky to have this to work with!?!)

We want our garden to work with the landscape rather than against it. Low-maintenance, water-wise and planted with species that naturally thrive here so it can just do its thing. 🌱

A garden that feels like it’s always belonged - with flowers, hidden corners, big old trees and plenty of places to make forever memories.

And one day, I hope there’s a little girl out there making her own fairy gardens 🤍

What we wish we knew prior to getting our financing sorted for our build… thanks Westpac 🥲🫠

Hopefully this makes sense because honestly… financing an owner-build & getting all your 🦆🦆 in a row is a bit of a minefield.

~ Welcome to Nullaki 🌾

We wanted this home to feel like it belongs here - sitting quietly within the natural landscape and working with, rather than against, our block.

The house will sit on galvanised steel stumps, following the natural slope of the land instead of cutting into it. This allows us to lift the house with the terrain, harness the water views and minimise earthworks.

Natural stone, timber, deep verandahs and plenty of indoor/outdoor connection are all designed to blur the line between the house and its surroundings.

We’re so excited to finally start bringing this to life. 🤎

My parents decided to build their own home a few years ago which inspired us to do the same (initially as an investment property & now as a forever home 🥹), so I got Dad to show us around their place and talk us through various aspects of the build.

Before we dive into our own owner-builder journey, I wanted to sit down with my Dad after he & my Mum recently completed their own home build. 🏡

We chat about why they chose to owner-build, what he loved most about the experience, the potential savings vs doing a commercial build, first steps to getting started in WA, and some of the biggest lessons learned along the way.

His biggest piece of advice? Treat it as one of life’s great adventures. Link to the full video in our bio ❤️

We will walk you through our house plans in much more detail soon (& why we decided to separate the build into 2 distinct phases with a semi-detached guest house - eventually!) but for now here’s a little sneak peek at our design.
