Who knew a travel assignment at Yale NHH emergency services during COVID would be the unexpected start of something greater.

Do not hire or invite an independent healthcare provider in to your home until you’ve done these four checks..

1. Check their nursing license Go to Nursys.com (it’s free). You’ll see if the license is active and if there’s been any discipline.

2. Confirm Basic Life Support is current Ask to see their BLS card. Look for the issue date and “Renew By” date.

3. Call their references yourself Ask for names and phone numbers of people they’ve actually worked with. Then call them. Don’t just rely on written reviews.

4. Check public criminal records Criminal records are public and free to search in most states. These are people you’re inviting into your home.
